AUDREY MARY MACKAY
She was born December 21, 1924 in St. Anne, Manitoba to Rachel and Marius Vieville. She was married in 1947 and devoted for 69 years to her husband Daniel MacKay, who predeceased her in 2016. She had seven brothers and sisters.
She is survived by two sisters, Lorraine and Angie. She leaves behind her four sons and a daughter, Carmicheal, his wife Joyce, their daughters, Alaina and Michelle, Ian, his daughters, Kim, Amanda and Ashley, Ross, his children, Kelsey and Logan, Allan and his daughter Helena, Dianne, her husband Dr. Ameri and their son Cameron. She leaves behind nine great-grandchildren.
Audrey and Dan lived in Winnipeg until retirement. They moved to Long Lake in a home they tirelessly built by themselves. They shared wonderful summers there while wintering in different countries enjoying an exciting, rich full life.
Later, they moved to Vernon, BC. On her husband's passing, Audrey moved to Kelowna BC, where she lived with and was cared for by her son Ian.
Audrey was a devoted wife and mother. She treasured her children and her greatest enjoyment was to have her family around her. Audrey and her husband loved nature and enjoyed their many pets. Audrey loved people. She treasured long time friendships with room in her heart to meet new people who would become dear friends also. She and her husband shared an involvement in many community organizations. Audrey especially loved Scottish country dancing. Her children all have fond memories of bagpipes playing in the home with fun loving friends sharing good times.
She volunteered her time to care for others which ultimately led to her career as a nursing assistant. She was devoted and proud to care for seniors. She always said "it's great to get old, but it is not funny" expressing the enjoyment of a long life, but recognizing the challenges of the elderly.
A strong, independent hard working women, she never wanted to waste a moment being idle. She filled her life accomplishing home and gardening projects that those years younger would not attempt to do. She instilled this strong work ethic into her children.
Her sense of humour and wittiness never failed her even during her her final weeks. During her illness, her strength of character was highlighted by her determination to get up every day even when she physically could not. Although not a philosophical person, her life philosophy would be that each day, each moment is a gift that we need to use wisely and not waste. She was deeply loved and will be missed.
She will be laid to rest along side her husband at Glen Eden Cemetery. Due to the ongoing pandemic, a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Audrey was a remarkable lady who devoted her life to her husband Dan and her children. My wife Laura who passed in 2010 and I spent many wonderful times with Audrey and Dan at their cottage at Long Lake and while we vacationed in Texas. Dan and I playing the pipes and Audrey always the great host. Later the new lady in my life,Elaine Bolter and I had the good fortune to continue our friendship with the MacKay's in their home in Vernon. Fortunately Elaine and I got to visit Audrey who was with her daughter Dianne, who had come from Texas to stay with her Mom in the Kelowna Hospice. We visited before the hospice was placed in lock down due to the virus. Even then Audrey was sharp and enjoyed hearing stories of days gone by and looking at photo's of the Pipe Band Dan I were members of. Audrey will be missed by all who had the good fortune to have known her. Rest Well,Audrey. - Posted by: Jack Reay & Elaine Bolter (Friends) on: Apr 12, 2020
