VIOLET FRANCES MCKENZIE
Violet was born in Hartney, MB on August 31, 1924, to Dr. C.H. McKenzie and Mary Jane (Elliott) McKenzie. She was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Mae, Winnifred Jean, Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Ellis; brother-in-law Borden Ellis, and great-nephew Neil Krebs.
She attended school in Hartney until Grade 10 and moved to Souris in 1940 and completed her Grade 12. Violet worked for a period at the Bank of Montreal in Souris and then entered nursing training in 1945 at the Winnipeg General Hospital, graduating in 1948. She worked at Souris Memorial Hospital from 1948 to 1951, Canadian Red Cross Blood Donor Clinic before accepting a position at Deer Lodge Hospital where she worked for 30 years until her retirement in 1981. She continued to volunteer at Deer Lodge Centre and CancerCare. Her membership in Patricia Chapter #8 of the Order of Eastern Star was a source of pride for Violet. Her hobbies included five pin bowling, lawn bowling and curling.
In her later years, Violet resided at Sturgeon Creek II retirement home where she developed many friendships and enjoyed bingo, church services and community outings for meals and entertainment.
Left to mourn are Donna Krebs (Ken), Jack Ellis (Maureen), grandnephew Bryon Krebs (Noelle); grandnieces, Sarah Ellis (Andrew Leyland) and Darcy Ellis, as well as several great-nieces and nephews.
The family thanks the Sturgeon Creek II staff who assisted Violet as her health declined and the staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare Manitoba or Children's Hospital are appreciated.
