RODNEY DAVID HAMILTON
January 12, 1967 April 5, 2020
He was predeceased by his parents, William James and Pauline (nee King) and his grandfather Cecil Hamilton.
Rod is survived by his uncle George, aunt Nancy and Tony, uncle Wally, Kevin, Glen and Jeffrey and aunt Shirley Johnson.
Born in Winnipeg, Rodney's family moved back to Boissevain, where he graduated from Boissevain Collegiate in 1985.
While attending University of Manitoba, Rod resided in University College residence making lifelong friends. He graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Engineering (civil) 1990.
Rod started his career with the City of Winnipeg in April 1990. During the early years at the city, Rod became a specialist in road maintenance and rehabilitation working on countless city street projects. In 2001, Rod took a job with the Public Works Asset Management office where he used his years of roads experience to help shape the city's road renewal and replacement program. He played an instrumental role in the development of Public Works asset management and pavement research practices. He always took his job to heart and put in countless hours of his personal time driving and inspecting city streets. In 2016, Rod was promoted to the Manager of Asset Management, where he finished out his career.
Rod also volunteered to work on all of the city's flood events from the 1997 "Flood of the Century" to his last flood event in 2016. Rod's passion and commitment to helping those in need made him a trusted and valuable flood team member. In 2015, after years of site supervision on flood events, Rod took over the role of Flood Coordinator for the City of Winnipeg. He always said that the greatest moments of his career were working flood events and helping the citizens of Winnipeg during these difficult times.
Although Rod wasn't the most outgoing person, he had the respect and friendship from all that got to know him. He always looked out for others asking for very little in return.
Rod was an avid sports fan, Jets, Blue Bombers, Vikings and Nascar. Rod would always join in on any sports discussions providing his insight. He enjoyed his hockey trips to Vegas with the boys. Rod managed the Dirty Bird hockey team. He was the leader, the heart and soul of the team.
In addition, he had a passion for dirt track car racing. Rod rarely missed an event at the Winnipeg Speedway and would head south to Grand Forks each summer weekend for more dirt track racing.
Rod will be truly missed by all who knew him. Our lives have been enriched by his friendship.
Rod's family and friends would like to thank the staff at Health Sciences Centre for their kind and supportive care during Rod's illness. A special thank you to his close friend, Rheal, for looking after Rod during this difficult time.
A celebration of Rodney's life will be held this summer.

Well I lost contact with him many years ago, often wondering if he was doing ok. Mentioned to a friend that I was looking for him and I was told he passed. We always joked about the identical watches we had. I was saddened to hear of his passing. Sure wished we could have joked around one last time. My condolences to his family and friends. - Posted by: Kent t (Old friend) on: Apr 26, 2023

So many people will miss Rod. He was quiet and humble on the outside but he was so funny and good to people. He brought a lot of people together through hockey. No beer league team has ever been blessed with a better leader. If we ever needed anything, Rod had it covered before we realized we needed it. The beer fund was flawless. He made his role look so easy and we all knew it wasn't. I was lucky to have known him, and I'll always remember him when sharing laughs with the countless hockey buddies I know today that I wouldn't know if it wasn't for Rod. - Posted by: Paul Bruce (Friend) on: Apr 15, 2020

Rod was a kind person that always put others first. Everyone liked him and he will be truly missed. He led by example and was easygoing. He was a quiet guy, which always made his sharp sense of humour all the more appreciated. Thanks Rod, for everything. You've left this world too soon, but left it a better place. - Posted by: Krista Molinski (Co-worker, friend) on: Apr 14, 2020
