LORRAINE THERESE MARIE
ERNESTINE VAILE
(nee BELLEFEUILLE)
June 9, 1928 April 6, 2020
Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, Lorenzo (1968) and Marie (1977); husband of 65 years Arthur (2016); and brother Phillip (2018).
Left to cherish loving memories are her son Bradley (Diana); and daughter Vicki Magnifico (Adriano); grandchildren, Andrea (Kelly), Jessica, Allison (Colby), Joel (Dominic), Alec (Jessica), Jeremy (Courtney); and great-grandchildren, Hunter and Hudson.
Lorraine was born and raised in Fort Garry where she attended Grandin School. In her youth she played the piano, loved to sketch and draw and always had her beloved dog, Carlos, by her side. One day in 1944, 'little brother' Phil brought home one of his hockey friends, and it was then that Lorraine first met Arthur.
After a lengthy courtship, Lorraine and Art were married on April 11, 1950, in the chapel of St. Ignatious Church. In those early years, Lorraine worked in the Sugar Beet Factory in Fort Garry. In 1954 son Brad was born, followed by Vicki in 1965. During these years, Mom was a stay at home mom and homemaker. She worked hard to provide a loving and nurturing home for her family. She enjoyed attending her children's activities and sporting events as well as volunteering at their schools. Mom was an accomplished seamstress and sewed many lovely outfits for herself and sometimes matching shirts for Brad and Vicki (old family joke!).
Mom kept busy doing volunteer work at the Victoria Hospital and at the various churches that she and Art attended. Lorraine liked to be active and over the years played in a mixed slow-pitch league, golfed at Crescent Drive Park and also played bridge. One of her favourite sports, though, was curling. She and 'her ladies' attended various bonspiels and won countless championships. Many wonderful memories were made with friends, both on and off the ice, at the Pembina Curling Club.
Mom cherished spending time with family and nothing made her happier than when her children and grandchildren would gather for birthdays, anniversaries or just because. She also loved family time with the Bellefeuille gang: brother Phil, Shirley, Linda, Diane and Tom. A good time was always had in their beautiful backyard on Berrydale Avenue. Mom and Dad enjoyed socializing with friends and neighbours; spending time with relatives in Keewatin (where her dad was born); and venturing out on numerous United States road trips shopping, visiting casinos and curling.
Lorraine called Fort Garry home for most of her life. She lived in houses on Kebir Place, Holly Avenue and Howard Avenue, followed by stays in Riverwood Square Assisted Living, Harmony Court Supportive Housing (when her dementia progressed) and, finally, Actionmarguerite in 2017.
The family would like to thank the staff at Actionmarguerite for their loving care during Mom's time with them. We are especially grateful for their kindness and compassion allowing Vicki to be with mom during her final few days with all that is going on in this crazy world at this time.
Cremation has taken place and no formal funeral service will be held. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
It brings the family comfort and joy to know that mom and dad are together again just in time to celebrate their 70th Wedding Anniversary today, April 11.

Everyone should be so lucky as to grow up on a safe quiet street like Howard Avenue. Lorraine and Art were always busy with Brad and Vicki and playing sports, yet they also were first in line to offer help to neighbours. They were both so genuine and kind. Brad and Vicki, you come from amazing parents and I send you condolences at this difficult time. Your Mom's sense of humour is something I still recall all these years later. - Posted by: Curtis Findlay (Family Friend) on: Apr 11, 2020
