She leaves to mourn her passing her daughters, Dianne (Vic), Helene, and Colette (Ken). Also her grandchildren, Michelle (Kelly), Christine (Che), Kristen (Cole) and Joel, as well as her great-grandsons, Aaron, Lee and Owen. She also leaves behind her many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly as she did them. She was predeceased by her husband Henri in 1966, as well as her four brothers and three sisters.
Marie-Jeanne was born in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan on March 26, 1922. When she was 15, due to lack of rain and poor crops, her family rented two boxcars for furniture plus two teams of horses and cattle, and moved to Manitoba where they leased a farm near LaBroquerie for five years. She attended a one-room schoolhouse until grade nine. Since there was no money to pay room and board to continue her education at the convent, she stayed home to help her mom on the farm. When the family moved to Lorette, she worked as a cook at St. Amant Centre, then in a sewing factory before getting married to Henri in 1948 and raising three daughters. Widowed at 44 years of age, she returned to work in a restaurant on Corydon Avenue, then ultimately in the diet kitchen, and later as a nurses' aide at the Misericordia Hospital, from which she retired.
She faced her many physical trials with strength and courage. We are blessed to have loved her for so many years. She enjoyed the staff and her many friends at her residence Manoir de la Cathedrale. We are forever grateful to Rhonda and the staff at the Manoir for their caring. Also many thanks to her loving visitors that she enjoyed so much. Always ready for a game of cards or Racko, she was a keen competitor to the end.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or a charity of your choice.
Cremation has taken place. Due to Covid19, decisions on a service will be made at a later date.

Dear Diane, Helene and Colette, I am deeply saddened to hear about your loss. I will remember your wonderful and gentle mother. I really enjoyed visiting with her and listening to her funny stories. Take care - Posted by: Paulette Hamilton (Niece) on: May 07, 2020
I will truly miss matante Marie-Jeanne. My happiest memories are of matante, Michelle and I playing cards. We would laugh so loud that it would bring the other residents down to see what was going on. She loved talking about the family and I learned so much about my mom and dad from her. My deepest condolences to all of you - Posted by: Jacqueline Lagasse (Niece) on: Apr 26, 2020
Marie Jeanne was a wonderful lady. She had such a great sense of humour and a smile for everyone no matter what. She is greatly missed here at Cathedrale. Rest In Peace sweet friend. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. It has been a pleasure getting to meet all of her family that came to visit. - Posted by: Rhonda Brown (Manager Cathedrale Manor ) on: Apr 24, 2020
I loved Matante Marie-Jeanne very much and I will always cherish our visits and card games together. I will really miss laughing with her too, her sense of humor was surprisingly blunt and sarcastic and because she was more of the soft spoken type, when she made a joke it stuck out with great hilarity! I will miss her. Condolences and well-wishes to her family in this difficult time. - Posted by: CHANTAL MARIE ADOLPHE (grand-daughter of her sister, Eva) on: Apr 19, 2020

Sorry to hear that auntie passed. She always had a beautiful smile whenever we would meet, which wasn’t often unfortunately. I don’t know her family but I do tell them that I am sorry for their loss but that they should believe that she is in a safe place with no suffering just love and happiness. - Posted by: Denise Robert (Niece ) on: Apr 18, 2020
