TENA SIDLAR
(née BOROWSKI)
March 16, 1925 - April 12, 2020

On Easter Sunday morning, April 12, 2020, Tena passed away peacefully at the Riverview Health Centre, at the age of 95.
Tena was predeceased by her parents, and Michael, her husband of 60 years. Left to cherish many fond memories are her children, Dennis (Linda) and Debby (Bill); and grandchildren, Megan and Kevin. Tena is also survived by her brother Alec (Ethel) and sister Pauline (Largo) as well as extended family and friends.
Mom was born in Rossburn, Manitoba and was raised on the farm with eight other siblings. At a very young age she bravely ventured into Winnipeg to work in the garment industry. She was a talented seamstress, working in various sewing factories and boutiques, as well as providing dressmaking services from home. Mom was an active member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church and was proud to serve several terms as President of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League, and the 55 Plus Seniors Group.
In addition to raising her family, working fulltime, and her involvement with the church, Mom had many hobbies including cooking, needlework, cribbage and canasta, gardening, singing in the church choir, perogy making, bowling, and cheering for the Blue Jays. In their retirement Mom and Dad also liked to travel, taking many road trips to visit friends and relatives across the country as well as a number of cruises including Alaska and the Caribbean.
Strong would be a good word to describe Mom's character. She was strong-willed and not afraid to express her opinion. And even in her final years when we couldn't always understand what she was saying, it was clear from the tone of her voice and the expression on her face that whatever she was saying was the definitive answer.
Heartfelt thanks to the staff at Riverview Health Center CD3, and Debbie No. 2 for your kind and compassionate care over the last four years.
Should you wish, donations in Tena's memory can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
A funeral service will be held at a later date once COVID restrictions are reduced.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I’ll always have fond memories of Aunt Tena from the many times we visited with her, Michael, and the family in Winnipeg when I was a young boy. On our way to or from visiting our Grandparents in Rossburn, Manitoba. Tena was always accommodating, and no matter what the circumstances, could make things work out. Above all, she was a strong woman who personified the pioneer spirit in many aspects of her life. Sincerest condolences to her family. - Posted by: Richard Albert (Nephew) on: May 05, 2020

  • Our deepest and sincerest condolences to her beloved children Debby, Bill, Dennis, Linda and grandchildren Megan and Kevin. • Nobody influenced who I became as a man more, than my mother Tena. I am gonna miss her because she pretty much always had the right answer. All you had to was ask. - Posted by: Dennis Sidlar (Son) on: Apr 18, 2020
