GEORGE GUNTER MEUB
March 6, 1936 - April 14, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George, loving husband and father, who passed away peacefully on April 14, 2020.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Ilse, of 62 years; daughters Susan (Antonio) and Sandi (John). George also leaves to mourn his sister, Helga; and brother, Carl. George was predeceased by his parents, Anna Christina (Dina) and Karl.
The four pillars of George's life were family, faith, career, and soccer; although the order might change on any given day! George enjoyed a wonderful marriage to Ilse, and had two lovely daughters. He participated actively in the community and spiritual life of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, and had a successful career in financial services. He loved to play soccer, and was a proud member of Winnipeg's Germania team, playing in the 1956 Canadian National Championship. George approached life with optimism, confidence, and curiosity. He will always be remembered for his quick smile and cheerfulness.
Sincere thanks and gratitude for the kind and compassionate care by staff at Riverview Health Centre Ward 2C, and staff at Misericordia Health Centre.
Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made in George's memory to Riverview Health Centre Foundation.
As per George's wishes, a cremation has taken place. A service to celebrate George's life will be held at a later date when people can travel and gather once again.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I remember Onkel Gunter fondly as a friend of the family growing up in Windsor Park in the 60s. We lost touch with the Meub family over the years but I was able to reconnect with Tante Ilse and Onkel Gunter again just over 5 years ago. It was so nice to reminisce over kaffe & kuchen again in true German fashion. My heartfelt condolences to Tante Ilse, Susan & Sandi. - Posted by: Cindy Graham (nee Witzleben) (family friend) on: Apr 24, 2020

  • My condolences to Ilse and your family. George was a great mentor to me during my early years at Rice Financial Group. Work ethic, integrity and a "client first" attitude sticks with me to this day. Of course the extra long lunch hours (big screen TV's at The Bay!) every four years during World Cup - especially Germany versus England - kept us busy too! Rest in peace George, well deserved. - Posted by: Dave Jones (friend , co-worker) on: Apr 21, 2020

  • My heartfelt prayers go out to you Ilse, Susan and Sandi. George will be thought about with love and many memories will prevail. Blessings to you all. Maureen Fingler - Posted by: Maureen Fingler (Long time friend) on: Apr 19, 2020

  • My warm wishes and kind thoughts to Tante Ilse, Sandi and Susan on their loss. As a child I always remember Onkel Gunter connecting and providing helpful advice. He always wanted us to know that he was listening and was there for us. - Posted by: Monica Hindmarch (Family friend) on: Apr 18, 2020
