MARY PATRICIA (PAT) DOWN
July 12, 1926 - April 7, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our mother, Mary Patricia Down.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Ron, in 2003, after 55 happy years. She leaves behind her daughter Lindsay (Ken), son Trevor (Cheryl), grandchildren, John Weatherill (Leah), Lauren Smith (Trevor), Sayer Down (Chenoah) and Aquila Down, and great-grandchildren, Susanna, Cameron and Heidi Weatherill and Madison and Tanner Smith, as well as brothers, Donald Scott (Marylou) and Terry Scott (Ryan).
Mom grew up in Norwood and stayed in South Winnipeg, raising her family in St. Vital on Elm Park Road. After retirement from working with the St. Vital YMCA, and later the Department of English, University of Manitoba, Mom and Dad moved to Fort Garry where the garden and home bloomed. Mom's friends were important to her and she enjoyed bridge clubs and volunteering at the "Y" and the Assiniboine Park Conservatory. Years of camping and love of the outdoors led them to find their property at West Hawk Lake in 1968. Mom cherished her family, and her favourite times were spent surrounded by family and friends at the cabin.
A family gathering will be held in the future.

  • So sorry to hear Mrs. Down passed away. Ron and I have happy memories of her playing shuffleboard with Lindsay and Ken at our home in Tsawwassen a few years ago at Christmas time. She looked as if she hadn't aged at all and was a delight to chat with. Sincere condolences are extended to Lindsay, Trevor and the entire family, especially given this challenging time in history when celebrating her life in traditional ways is not possible at the present time. Stay strong, stay healthy and cherish happy memories. - Posted by: Janice Iverach Wasik (childhood friend and classmate of Lindsay) on: Apr 19, 2020
