GAYE SEGAL
1934 - 2020
She is survived by her children, Rhonda and Zvi Gordon and David and Glenda Segal, grandchildren, Jason Gordon, Jeffrey Gordon, Shimon and Ashley Segal, Devin and Nicole Segal, Ryan Segal and Joshua Balzer, and great-grandchildren, Lucy, Molly and Olivia Gordon and Chloe Segal. She is also survived by her devoted and caring brother and sister-in-law Hy and Donna Dubo, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Sidney Segal in 2012, mother and father Molly and Nathan Dubovsky, mother and father-in-law Dorothy and Joseph Segal, and siblings, Jack Dubovsky, Sue (Jack) Lomow, Anne (Alvin) Gardner, Fay (Max) Klapman, Harry (Gladys) Dubo, and sister-in-law Shirley (Ben) Billinkoff.
Gaye was a feisty and unique woman who will be remembered for her love of fashion and brightly coloured clothing and hats, and a passion for parties and family get-togethers. Born in Winnipeg's North End in 1934, Gaye spent her formative years visiting and sleeping over at the homes of her older sisters, helping and babysitting her nieces and nephews. She met her husband Sid at the age of 17 and they were married two years later in May 1953, followed by the births of their two children, Rhonda in 1955 and David in 1958. Throughout her life, Gaye enjoyed frequenting restaurants and nightclubs, shopping, and visiting with family and friends. She was a doting grandmother who loved taking her grandchildren to movies, concerts and events.
Gaye survived cancer (Multiple Myeloma) for more than 25 years but was never worried about her illness and never complained about it. Instead, she enjoyed her time visiting staff and having a cup of coffee or soup at CancerCare Manitoba. She did not just fight cancer; she found the inner strength to completely disregard it. She has inspired her family to not dwell on the big things in life and instead to celebrate the small, simple joys - a cup of coffee, a muffin, or a car ride.
Ultimately, Gaye will be remembered for her unconditional love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was proud of all their accomplishments and derived so much joy from spending time with them.
Gaye's family would like to thank the staff at CancerCare Manitoba for their expert care and attention over many years and the Simkin Centre for their exceptional kindness and care during the last six weeks.
A graveside funeral service was held on April 22, 2020, at the cemetery of Temple Shalom, Beit Chaim Mikdash Shalom, officiated by Rabbi Allan Finkel.

My deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time. I loved seeing Gaye and Sid, when the families gathered at Donna and Hy's. I remember that Gaye and Sid were quite concerned in the 90s, that I was going home on the bus after volunteering at PTE. Even with me telling them what precautions that I took, they were still quite concerned. She will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Gloria Waldron (Niece of Donna and Hy Dubo) on: Apr 25, 2020

Sincere condolences on your mother’s passing. I met Gaye several times over cups of soup at Buhler Cancer Centre. She was feisty and a real character. You will miss her presence in your lives. - Posted by: Frances Harris (Acquaintance) on: Apr 25, 2020

My deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time. I have fond memories of Gaye when we worked together at Gabbrielli's in Garden City many, many years ago. Gaye had a colorful sense of fashion and always had a smile on her face and a kind word to share. Now Sid and Gaye can walk toward the rainbow together. - Posted by: DENISE HREHORUK (Co - worker) on: Apr 25, 2020
