DONALD (DON) JOHN SCHWARTZ
October 21, 1965 - April 22, 2020

Don will be remembered by his wife, Brenda; daughter, Samantha (Don); and grandchildren, Noah and Isabelle. Also remembering Don are his dad, George; brothers, David (Gitta), Dale (Ru); his nieces, nephews and their families, many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Joyce, in June, 2019.
Growing up in the St. Vital area meant playing football for the Mustangs. Don's love for the game and talent as a running back lead him to be part of the provincial all-star team. Summers as a young boy were spent with his family camping and touring parts of Canada and the USA.
In March of 2000 Don met Brenda, and the camping continued with their daughter Samantha. These times were spent fishing and sitting around the campfire, loudly discussing whose music to listen to. Don usually won!
Don was so proud to be a grampa to Noah and Isabelle. He was looking forward to teaching his little buddy, Noah, how to fish this summer. As both kids got older, he was excited to be able to play with his electric car set, playing with Lego, and dancing with Isabelle.
We have gained a lifetime of wonderful memories because we shared this path with Don. He was not with us for a long time, but a good time.
Brenda would like to thank all of the First Responders, the Winnipeg Police, and all others that tended to Don and helped her during this difficult situation. You are an amazing group.

Without you in my life
I'd slowly wilt and die
But with you by my side
You're the reason I'm alive.

You're the reason the sun shines down
And the nights, they don't grow cold
Only you that I'll hold when I'm young
Only you that I'll hold as we grow old.

As per Don's wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to current circumstances a formal service will be held at a later date. In the meantime, have a beer or drink of one's choice to celebrate Don's life. Cheers!

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • My deep condolences, I went to school with Don and played football with him. Remember him running over an opponent and cracking his helmet! Was never afraid of contact and loved the game. My best to Dale and David and the rest of the family. - Posted by: Brian Howard (Friend) on: May 12, 2020

  • I came upon this obituary by chance and am so very saddened for you Brenda. My sympathy also to Samantha and her children. Although we’ve lost touch over many years, I remember the love you had for each other and was honoured to stand up for you at your wedding. There are no words that could fill the void left by your loss. I lost my husband 6 years ago and please know that in time your memories will be filled with more smiles and laughter than tears of sorrow. Love Sheryl - Posted by: Sheryl Graboski (Family friend) on: May 12, 2020

  • I was a classmate of Donald’s from Varenne’s School in Kindergarten to Grade 9 and then Glenlawn Collegiate in Grades 10 to 12. He was a feisty student, head strong but I always got a chuckle out of his shenanigans. We have all lost touch of each other over the years. But I wanted to say I was sorry to hear of his passing. I’m glad to hear that he had some happy years with a wife and children. My condolences and I will pray for your comfort @desireemm17 - Posted by: Désirée Morris (Varennes School and Glenlawn Collegiate ) on: May 11, 2020

  • So sorry to hear about Don's passing. My deepest condolences. - Posted by: Ed Burr (Family friend) on: May 11, 2020

  • Hello Brenda I have been out of touch. I was sorry to hear of Don’s sudden passing. I have many fond memories of our times at Lake of the Woods camping and canoeing and in the church youth group. Take care of yourself Blessings love and prayers Addie Thoroski - Posted by: Addie Thoroski (Family friend ) on: May 09, 2020
