SYLVIA ANNE CLARK
(nee RAWLINGS / MCAULEY)
February 24, 1936 - April 24, 2020
Sylvia was born in Melville, SK, and resided in Thunder Bay, Atikokan, Schreiber, Terrace Bay and Sapawe, ON, Calgary, AB and Middlebro, MB, before settling in Winnipeg in her senior years. She was predeceased by her husband Ian Clark; parents, Agnes McKie (nee Abrahamson/ Rawlings) and Claude Rawlings; ex-husband Gordon McAuley; Ewart & Lily McAuley; in-laws, Lois Goodwin, Rod and Dorothy McAuley, and stepchildren, Jimmy and Heather Clark.
Sylvia was friendly, outgoing and very down to earth. Honest and hard-working all her life, whether mothering, homemaking, gardening, clerking, waitressing or volunteering, Sylvia was welcoming of all and had a very positive attitude, genuine laugh and huge smile for everyone.
Always a good sport, Mom enjoyed playing cards, knitting/crocheting, and taking short bus trips and cruises with her friends and daughters. She enjoyed curling and bowling, and watching/going to sports events; Mom was a huge Bombers, Jets and Blue Jays fan.
Sylvia was very practical and down to earth, but more than anything else, she was the "Best Mom" ever to her five children, and warm and welcoming to her stepchildren and kid's half-siblings and loving in-laws, and in turn continued to be welcomed and included in all their lives.
On top of being the "Best Mom", Sylvia was a good friend to her many dear lifelong friends and church, Good Neighbours and 1590/1630 friends, and we want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all their support, past and present. A big thank you goes to our Uncle Warren who was always there for us through some of Mom's more difficult years, and to Jack and Marlene, Lloyd and Roxanne, Jo, Colleen, Angus and Carolyn, Marg and Vic, Joan, good Betty and bad Betty, Jean, Shirley, Rev. Marc Whitehead, Rev. Brenda Gibson, and the list goes on and on.
Sylvia will be fondly remembered and sorely missed. She leaves a huge hole in the lives of her children who love her dearly; She was "Our Hero", strong and brave to the end, and we are all so grateful that we were blessed with such a wonderful mother.
Rest in Peace Mom,
We Love You So much,
and will Miss you Always.
Service to be held at a later date.

Condolences to both of you and your family on the loss of your lovely Mother. When I would see her at her apartment building, she was usually enjoying good times with her fellow Residents and always so pleasant! I'm sure she will be missed by many people whom she had a relationship with. Take care during these times of sadness and grief. There are no words to express how devastated we feel for you and yours. But, I want you to remember what a wonderful woman Sylvia was. Through adversity, trials and tribulations I do not think she ever gave up on being a great mother to the five of you. She was a proud lady despite all the hurdles that were thrown in her way throughout her life. Her kindness and loyalty were always reckoned and repaid by the number of friends she always had, the many volunteer hours she put in at her apartment complex in Winnipeg and just by being her. Yes, she will be sadly missed by many people, but we all must remember her many attributes that made her a good mother and friend - and hope we can all follow her attitude of never giving up until all avenues are explored. Unfortunately she's met her greatest challenge, but she was in control and faced it with the same attitude that she portrayed through life - making the best of a bad situation with her decision, for her life and in her way. Life throws us many challenges - but we/you were raised to rise above some of them. Our hearts go out to all five of you- but as my neighbour said to me when my dad passed away- so early in my life- so unexpectedly and I was devastated- “When able to quit feeling sorry for yourself, you will get better. Your dad is at peace”! WOW- that hit me like a ton of bricks- BUT- he was right. My dad was at peace- I needed to get there too. That was 40 some years ago and I still miss him - but I relish in all the good times now- the great times and the happy times and all the things he taught me. That day will come for you too. Be happy that you created wonderful memories together. No one can take those away. Hugs to you all, Georgette & Glenn OX - Posted by: Georgette & Glenn Rawlings (Brother & Sister-in-law) on: Apr 25, 2020
