December 6, 1939 - April 21, 2020

Suddenly, at his home in Navin, Manitoba, Ernie Didur passed away on April 21, 2020, aged 80 years.
Left to cherish his memory, he leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Doreen (nee Christiansen) Didur; brother, Sylvester (Claire); as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Dmetro and Mary Didur; as well as brothers, Richard Didur and Danny Didur.
Born and raised in Garland, Manitoba, Ernie moved as a young man to Winnipeg, and made that area his lifelong home. His career was welding, but his passion was purple martins…he spent 40 years volunteering with the Manitoba Purple Martin Club. In 2003 he was awarded the Prestigious Founders Award from the Purple Martin Society N.A., and then in 2017 was awarded the premier's volunteer award by Premiere Brian Pallister. He loved all birds, fishing, singing, playing his guitar, karaoke, and having coffee with his friends.
Due to the pandemic, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Always a warm smile and an enthusiastic greeting. When he had a moment to think, along came a corny joke to brighten the day. Never a mean thought. Truly happy to have known you Ernie. Thanks for being you. Rick and Carol Holley Vienna ON - Posted by: Rick & Carol Holley (Fellow purple martin nuts.) on: May 03, 2020

  • Ernie worked with our son as a welder, after John died at 30 Ernie called us on his birthday every year since 2000. Our deepest condolences to Doreen and family. - Posted by: Wayne & Geri Slobodian (a very dear friend of our late son John and ours) on: May 02, 2020

  • Think of you often, Sylvester. I still have a pic of you and my brother Lloyd at your graduation from "Normal School" as well as one very silly one. I lost three siblings within a year, and Lloyd passed away about five years ago. How quickly time goes by. Condolences to you and all the family. May you retain many sweet memories to help you through the grieving. - Posted by: Caroline Stevenson ((Lefteruk Family)) on: May 02, 2020
