GEORGE (RAE) ALEXANDER DAVIDSON
1920 - 2020
Rae was predeceased by his loving wife June (2003) of 57 years; his mother Barbara and father George, as well as his sister Frances Gribble (Alan) of New Zealand. He is survived by his son Ross (Sandra); grandchildren, Kevin (Lorna), Sean (Alicia), Robert (Mandi) in B.C. and Duana (Terry) in Alberta. Surviving also is his sister-in-law Denise Ritchie of Winnipeg; nieces, Gail and Marlene; and other nieces and nephews, as well as several great-grandchildren.
Rae was born in West Kildonan on July 1, 1920, a special Dominion Day (Canada Day) baby. As a youngster he moved to the West End and attended Isaac Brock and Daniel MacIntyre schools. In 1941 he joined the Canadian Army and served in England, France, Belgium and Germany till discharge in 1946. After his marriage to June they lived on Strathcona Street and then moved out to Charleswood where they built their home on Charleswood Road. After Rae's service discharge he joined the Federal Government and spent 37 years working various departments before retiring in 1983. He took great pride in building the cottage at Lee River which the family enjoyed for 45 years. In retirement, he and June enjoyed annual winter vacations to Corpus Christie, Texas and in the summer annual trips visits to the family cattle ranch (Wendigo) in Northern BC. Rae enjoyed gardening, hockey, cricket and much the same on T.V. Always looking for an opportunity at a round of golf. He was a member of the Charleswood Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion for many years.
Rae's initial plans were to have a service at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, however due to the Covid pandemic and all its restrictions that will not be possible. Rae will be laid to rest next to his wife June at Chapel Lawn with the possibility of a Celebration of Life in the future should circumstances allow same.
Rae's family wishes to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped Rae out in the past six months with very special thanks to Pat Gray, Red and Lorraine Weatherby and Linda and Bob Delaney. Thank you so very much.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association, 930 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg MB R3G 0P8 or a charity of your choice.
