JOHN SEMENKO
John was born December 12, 1930, in Cromwell, Manitoba, to Nicholas and Angela (Nellie) Semenko. He grew up in the Sand Hill area where he went to school and worked on the family farm.
He met his wife Noreen (Acton) at a community dance in Beausejour and they were married a year later on September 22, 1956. John and Noreen built their house in East St. Paul in 1960, where they raised their family of four boys. They were very active in the community. While Noreen volunteered on various recreational centre committees, John enjoyed coaching his boys' hockey teams and also served as a councillor for the Rural Municipality of East St. Paul for several years. In later years, John had time to lace up his skates and played hockey with the East St. Paul Oldtimers. Both John and Noreen enjoyed the out of town hockey tournaments where they connected with many friends. John worked at Deer Lodge Centre for 33 years and retired in 1992 as the Manager of Maintenance Services.
John and Noreen always loved to travel; from camping in the Whiteshell with their young family, to travelling to Europe and tropical locations, to wintering in Florida, Arizona and eventually Texas. After Noreen passed away in 2007, John continued to enjoy weekly golf games with friends, family gatherings and attending his grandchildren's many activities.
John was predeceased by his wife Noreen (2007) and son David (2017), as well as his brothers, Edward, David, and his sister Elaine. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Brian (Rhonda), Brad (Brenda) and Mark; grandchildren, Jason (Roberta), Tasha, Kelly (Terri), Michelle (Dwayne), Hannah (Cole), Breanne, Kristen and Jenna, and three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Azlynn and Grayson. He will also be missed by his brother Larry (Sharon), sisters, Irene Beers and Diane Loader, brother and sister-in-law Brian and Wilma Acton, as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Kildonan Personal Care Centre for the kindness and gentle care they showed to John and our family over the past several months.
A small, private viewing has taken place. A family interment and celebration of John's life will be held at a later date.

I have just learned of John’s passing and would like to offer my sincere condolences to John’s family. I first met John when he was a Municipal Counsellor for the Rural Municipality for a East St. Paul. John was one of the Counsellors that interviewed me when I applied for and was accepted for employment in East St. Paul. John was an outstanding Counsellor and was extremely devoted to serving the citizens of East St Paul. John was very involved with the community and people of East St Paul and will surely be missed by the many lives he touched. Rest In Peace John. Dearest Cousins My thought and prayers are with the whole Semenko family. Also growing up in the Sand Hill area and living only a couple of miles from the his family farm. I reunited with John after years apart at the Personal Care Home, which I saw him every day for a whole year, when I visited with my husband Ed. John was just across the hall way from Ed. John always had a smile for me, when he finally realized I was his cousin and my mom was Nellie (Kulbaba) Pleskacz. He talked about all the fun they had with my mom. Times I think he thought I was my mom as I look so much like my mom. Unfortunately my husband passed away in February so I hadn’t seen him in his final two months. My God Bless you John and May You Rest in Pease my dear cousin. I’m Loving Memory. From Your cousin Sandy (Pleskacz) (Kulbaba) Sawchuk. - Posted by: Sandy Sawchuk (Cousin) on: May 05, 2020

I met John, and Marc in the dining room, at Kildonan home, while having Sunday dinner with my mom (Joan). We talked about the Wpg. Jets, what’s going on in the NHL, latest news, and general chit chat. We shared laughs, and were quit open with our topics. Who would get the last piece of pie on our servers cart, and not the yogurt was always entertaining. It turned out that Marc ( River East Royals ), played against me ( Seven Oaks Raiders ). Small world isn’t it. Dear Marc, god bless your Dad, you, and your family during this time. Thanks for the wonderful conversations. - Posted by: Kris Halaiko (Friend) on: May 02, 2020
