On April 29, 2020, Ramona O'Laughlin, our beautiful Mum, Mom, Gammie, Grannie and Nana left us to take a new journey and to be with some of those who predeceased her, including her husband William (Bill), daughter Constance, sister Iris, and brother William (Buddy).
Ramona was born in Halifax on May 30, 1928, the oldest of three children of Lester and Maude Coolen. She married Bill O'Laughlin in 1948 and they had four daughters together. Bill's job took them to a number of different cities in Canada and the United States to live - including Duluth, Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto, and back to Halifax. In September 2016, Ramona moved to Winnipeg to be close to Meghan and her family. Ramona loved to travel including long road trips every summer to visit family in other provinces, epic sightseeing trips with her daughter Lynda through the US, and a special trip to Ireland in 1999 which she bravely took by herself. She loved her job at Mount St. Vincent University in Halifax where she met many wonderful people. She also loved oil painting, time spent at Mill Lake, and most of all she cherished time spent with her four daughters, and grandchildren, whom she loved deeply. Ramona was a strong spirit and a survivor, overcoming some significant challenges in life, always supporting her family.
Ramona is survived by three daughters - Lynda in Halifax, Kathy (Ray) in Milton, ON, and Meghan (Jim) in Winnipeg, MB; seven grandchildren, Cindy, Kathryn, Ron (Candice), Patrick (Mackenzie), Adam, Brendan and Lauren; and six great-grandchildren, Nathan, Hannah, William, Jack, Charlie and Avery.
Many thanks and much appreciation to the staff, health care aides, and nurses at Misericordia Place where she spent her final months, and also to the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, The Waverley - Assisted Living, and Home Instead who all provided excellent support in her final years.
Any donation in Ramona's name can be made to a local charity of your choice.
