BETTY MADELINE MARY FORD
January 26, 1926 - April 27, 2020

Our mother, Betty Ford, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 27, 2020, at her home in the Brightwater Senior Living of Tuxedo, Winnipeg, at the age of 94.
Predeceased by her husband Kevin in 2004 and her granddaughter Anne in 2015, Betty is survived by her four children: Madeline (Lorne Colish), Christopher (Carole Campeau), Angela (Russell Ross) and Patricia (Peter Tsekouras); 12 grandchildren: Jane, Will, Jack, Rebecca, Matthew, Kate, Michael, Leah, Anna, Jacqueline, Philip and Simon; and six great-grandchildren: Abbie, Ben, Elizabeth, Elliott, Desmond and Huxley. Also much loved and missed by Marion Lake, Ruth Biggar, Richard Finkel, Richard Moth, Carole and John Quayle, Andrew and Joan Campfield, John Kagan and Christine Newman.
Betty lived a full and eventful life. She was born and raised in Torpoint, Cornwall, England, obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from the University of Manchester, and married Kevin in 1946. She taught high school science before she and Kevin started our family and immigrated to Canada in 1957. Betty and Kevin spent two years in St. John and Fredericton, New Brunswick, then settled in Winnipeg in 1959. After raising their children she completed a Bachelor's Degree in Library Science and enjoyed working for many years as a school librarian. She was an active member of the University of Manitoba Women's Club and the Opimian Society. She was a world traveller, a wine connoisseur, tolerated many sailing trips with our father, and had a keen interest in and awareness of global current events. Betty carried herself with grace and elegance. She enjoyed a daily martini before dressing up for dinner and always ended her day with the 8 o'clock evening news and the local newspaper.
We extend our deep appreciation to the doctors who cared for our mother over the past several years, most recently Dr. Loiselle, to the caring and attentive staff at the Brightwater, her home for the past two years, and to Father Gerry Ward for his comfort and support in her final months.
Private funeral arrangements by Bardal Funeral Homes.
No flowers please. Donations may be made in memory of Betty to a charity of your choice.

You will be in our hearts forever.
Rest in peace.

  • I’m very sorry for your loss. Betty Ford was a close friend of my mother’s and was there throughout our lives. She was also my godmother, who in her thoughtfulness, never forgot to send me a card for my birthday. She was very elegant, classy, and yet down to earth, with a sharp mind. She always had a positive attitude and was ready to laugh at any given time. Over the last few years, when returning to Winnipeg for visits, I arranged lunches with her and my mom, which were great. She loved to talk about her grandchildren, proud of all of their accomplishments. She was a very caring person, and she’ll be missed. My deepest condolences. - Posted by: John Kagan (godson) on: May 05, 2020

We will miss her. - Posted by: Ruth Kagan on behalf of the Kagan family (Family Friends) on: May 04, 2020

  • This is a wonderful and loving obituary that truly reflects everything that Betty was. Always chic and stylish in her appearance, she took an informed interest in all she came into contact with throughout her lifetime and related easily to all who had the good fortune to meet her. She was kind without exception. Betty had true grace throughout her long life - we will miss her. - Posted by: Carole & John Quayle, Isle of Man, UK (Aunt) on: May 03, 2020

  • My condolences to the family. I met Mrs. Ford when I was a school friend of Angela 50 years ago. I still recall her as a pleasant person who introduced me to the British tradition of having tea. - Posted by: Blaine MacKinnon (Friend) on: May 02, 2020

  • My deepest condolences to the family of Betty. She was a devoted Godmother to me and never forgot to contact me on my birthday and at Christmas, even after I left Winnipeg. As a child she was my ''Aunt Betty'' as none of my extended family were in Canada. Sadly I lost contact with her in the last few years but she was always in my heart. Betty is now at peace in Heaven though we miss her now. - Posted by: Christine Dacquay (Newman) (goddaughter) on: May 02, 2020
