MARLENE METZLER
(nee BROWN)
August 29, 1936 - April 28, 2020
Marlene was born in Souris, Manitoba and moved to Winnipeg after high school where she worked at Manitoba Hydro and then went on to work for the St. James School Board. She married Bill Metzler in 1959 and in 1965 settled into Woodhaven where she enjoyed a full and happy life in a home that she adored for many years with her loving husband and family.
Beautiful on the inside and out, Marlene made the world a better place. Gentle, kind, generous, thoughtful, fun-loving and down to earth are a few words to describe our Marlene. She had a great sense of humour and was happiest with friends or family gathered around and lots of laughs. Her hobbies included quilting, crafts, golfing, cross-country skiing, and bridge and she was a lover of history and autobiography books. Marlene enjoyed family camping trips, annual Firefighter Curling Championships where many lifelong friendships were established. She was an avid traveller, visiting Australia, Germany, Greece, Turkey, Antarctic, England, Hawaii to name a few.
Marlene was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Stella Brown, and sister Georgina Kettles. She is survived by her devoted husband Bill, daughters, Kim (Audie) and Diana, grandson Jeff, sisters, Marjorie Lepage, Linda Smith and Lorraine Elton, brother Marvin Brown, sister-in-law Elaine Gallagher, as well as numerous nieces and nephews across Canada and Australia.
We would like to express our gratitude to the staff at Health Sciences Centre, as well as home care (Mildred) for their wonderful care.
A private service will take place.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Firefighters Burn Fund.
