DONNA GAIL MACKAY
(nee JARDINE)

Peacefully entered into the loving arms of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ at 7:48 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2020, at the Gimli Community Health Centre, Gimli, MB, Donna Gail Mackay of Petersfield, MB, aged 78 years.
Donna leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 56 years, John Douglas Mackay; children, John (Michelle) Mackay, Dawn (Timothy) Plett, and Kevin (Lynette) Mackay; six grandsons, Ian, Orrin, Ryan, Tyler (Alyssa), Malcolm, Michael (Robyn). She is also survived by her brothers, Murray (Alvina) Jardine and Garth (Diana) Jardine; sisters-in-law, Florence Skwarek, Margaret Palmer, Agnes (Lawrence) Moore, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother Douglas in 1975, father Victor in 1976 and mother Anne in 1996.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Mackay, Malcolm Mackay, Michael Mackay, Ryan Plett, Timothy Plett and David Boehmer.
Donna was born on July 18, 1941, in Matlock, MB. She had beautiful wavy red hair. As a child she attended Whytewold Beach School. Her first job was as a telephone operator in Winnipeg Beach. After graduating from the Scientific Marvel Beauty School in Winnipeg, she opened her own salon in Matlock.
She married John, the love of her life on December 21, 1963, and soon became the bookkeeper for John D. Mackay Roofing. Donna took great pleasure in making a home for her family. She gardened, preserved and canned "the fruit of her labour". She had a "green thumb" and planted a large beautiful flower garden, using large flat rocks she and John collected from the fields to make a four tier, oval garden. She had a witty sense of humour and loved to entertain guests with fantastic cooking (especially perogies!) and many memorable laughs. Donna had a special love for the elderly and helped many through visits, grocery trips, doctor appointments, etc.
Special thanks to the wonderful nurses and staff at the Gimli Hospital for your care and compassion for Donna during her seven week stay. Special thanks also to Pastor Laurie Barth for words of friendship, faith and comfort.
Viewing will take place on the evening of Thursday, May 7 at the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. MB. Please call 204-886-2193 for booking time slots.
A private family interment will be held at a later date at the Dunara Cemetery, Petersfield, MB. A memorial service will be held once gathering restrictions are lifted.

Thank you mom for being the best wife and mother we could ever have. We will miss
you dearly and always carry the precious memories you gave us in our hearts.
We love you!
