ISHBEL MACLEAN TURNBULL
(nee LINDSAY)
August 28, 1930 - May 5, 2020

With the family by her side, Ishbel Maclean Turnbull peacefully passed away.
She was predeceased by her husband Jim in 2003. Left to cherish her memory are sisters, Joan and Marguerite, and family in Scotland, daughter Ishbel (Michael), son Jim (Christine), daughter Yvonne (Ted); grandchildren, Tara (Liam), Brad (Tannis), Andrea (Eric), Ishbel, Elizabeth, Kieran, Jimmy (Chanel); and great-grandchildren, Payton, Brodie and Brock.
The fourth of seven children, Ishbel was born to Duncan and Donaldina Lindsay in Laurelbank, Scotland on August 28, 1930, and grew up in Mount Ellen, near Muirhead. She attended Chryston School, and went on to pursue Psychiatric nursing studies at Gartloch Hospital, achieving State Enrolled Nurse status.
In 1953, Ishbel married James Turnbull, and lived in Moodiesburn, Scotland with their three children until immigrating to Winnipeg in 1967. Ishbel worked at the Health Sciences Centre and then CancerCare Manitoba. She was the Past Worthy Matron of Queen Winnipeg No. 1 Order of the Eastern Star and Grand Representative to Scotland. Together with her husband Jim, they were active members of the Robert Burns Club, and the Royal Scottish Country Dancers. Ishbel enjoyed happy years at Carriage House North where she made many good friends, playing whist and Scrabble, and singing karaoke. Her cheery conversation will be missed and family gatherings just won't be the same.
Thanks to Dr. Snovida, St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care, Deer Lodge Hospital and home care workers, all whose help was deeply appreciated.

Those we love don't go away.
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near.
Still loved, still missed and very dear.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • So sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you - Posted by: John Verhoef (Friend of Ishbel Moore (daughter) ) on: May 16, 2020

  • I first met Ishbel at the Robert Burns Luncheon. She sat with my mum and myself. At the next luncheon she brought Jim. Between Jim and my mum they remembered seeing each other at my godfather's funeral, who at the time was a member of Fort Osborne Lodge. Jim was one of the pallbarers. Jim and Ishbel signed my petition to join Queen Winnipeg #1 and Jim also signed my late husband Jim's to join Fort Osborne Lodge. They were both loyal to both the masonic fraternity and to the Burns club where both of them were Past Presidents. Although I haven't been in touch lately she was a good friend. RIP till we all meet again. A link in our golden chain of friendship has lost another link. - Posted by: Barbara Green (friend) on: May 10, 2020

  • Though it has been a long while since our paths crossed, I remember Ishbel during our time at MCTRF as a very sweet Scottish soul with a delightful sense of humour. I so much enjoyed working with her. My heartfelt condolences to Ishbel’s entire family. - Posted by: Michelle Powder (Former colleague, CancerCare Manitoba (formerly Manitoba Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation)) on: May 09, 2020

  • Ishbel, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mom. This is such a strange time for us not to be able to gather and offer support because of the Pandemic. I will keep you and your family in my prayers especially tomorrow on Mother's Day. Barbara Parsons (friend) - Posted by: Barbara Parsons (friend) on: May 09, 2020
