DAISY MACDONALD
January 21, 1924 - May 6, 2020

From her early days on the farm in Chater to the 75 years she lived in Winnipeg, Daisy Macdonald brought comfort, humour and compassion to her family, friends and many others whom she met along the way.
For nearly a century, Daisy always put the needs of others ahead of her own. She was always welcoming people into her home for a meal or a place to stay. She was known for her infectious laugh, humour, wit and homemade pie.
Daisy was a graduate of the Brandon Mental Hospital, Class of 1946. Upon graduation she moved to Winnipeg and married the love of her life, Jack, on August 16, 1947. She was a nurse at the Winnipeg General Hospital but soon her career was put on hold to start a family. At 56, her nursing career resumed when she lost Jack to heart disease in 1980.
Daisy had a sense of adventure and loved to travel. She enjoyed many trips and cruises visiting family and friends and seeing the world for the first time.
She leaves behind her five children, Cheryl, Pat, Jimmy, Fraser and Wanda. Their supportive partners, Andy, Bobby, Wendy and Mitch couldn't have asked for a better mother-in-law. Daisy was devoted to her grandchildren who brought her joy - Susan, Vanessa, Cynthia, Sarah, Jake, Erin, Ashley, Robyn and Nick. For 65 years, she was a good friend to Lorraine Burkett, a frequent visitor to the nursing home where Mom lived until she died.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to the staff at Misericordia Place MP3 for their care and compassion for nearly five years. She was a nurse to the end and she would often tell the staff how to do their job. A very special thanks to Wanda, the only one still living in Winnipeg, who gave our mom the greatest care and attention right until her last moments.
Mom was able to maneuver through the hills and valleys of life without losing her way. She is our hero. We hope to be half as fine a person.
Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, a private interment will be held at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • Sorry to read this. I loved her to bits. She was so much like a second Mom. I will carry your laughter and humour with me forever... - Posted by: Laurie Comberbach (Goddaughter) on: Jan 26, 2021

  • Our sincere condolences to the family. Our dad was on MP3 as well & spent many suppers there learning about her life in Chater, & by what means of travel she was going there that day. Always asking the nurses (& me) what nursing she should be doing as she didn't want to sit there doing nothing. She had me in stitches all the time with the things she would say. She sure was a hi-lite when we were visiting dad. Loved that Lady.... - Posted by: Rose Jemson ((Daughter of Ben)) on: Nov 21, 2020

  • I have fond memories of Daisy's kindness when Pat and I were in swim club and going on trips to Mineapolis - such a wonderful laugh! Wow that was 60 years ago! My blessings to you all - Arlene Walker, Vancouver - Posted by: Arlene walker (Old friend) on: Nov 21, 2020

  • Thank you for this loving memorial to Daisy. Our family got to know her as our mother's “neighbour” at Misericordia Place. She was always present with a smile and a quip, and her banter kept us on our toes! She was a bright light and loved her family. We will all miss her, but Daisy has finally found her way home. We wish her eternal peace and joy. - Posted by: Jan Belanger (Friend) on: Jun 05, 2020

  • Our deepest condolences to the Macdonald family. I have nothing but fond memories from my youth of Aunty Daisy and her warmth, generosity and sense of humor. We shared many laughs and good meals at family gatherings when my grandparents, Ken and Ethel lived with her in Winnipeg. She was a great lady and I am happy to have known her. - Posted by: Stefan and Melinda Roy (grandnephew ) on: May 14, 2020

  • Our sincere condolences to all Daisy's family. She was a wonderful, loving person. She & my mother Ethel were sisters but also the best of friends. I remember the summers in the "Hen Pen", you were like my second Mom. Daisy you will never be forgotten! - Posted by: Linda & Serge Roy (Niece & husband) on: May 14, 2020

  • I am so sorry to hear about Daisy. I helped care for her for many years, up until 5 years ago, and seeing her was always the high point of my day. She always managed to beat me at cards and I couldn’t get enough of the amazing stories she told of her family. Wanda, thank you for introducing me to the most amazing lady and to learn what a truly good person looks like. I will never forget Daisy. - Posted by: Kim (Caregiver ) on: May 09, 2020
