RAYMOND DARY
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Rose Marie, and his extended family.
Ray was born in Winnipeg on Jamieson Avenue, the son of Elena and Nicholas Dary.
He was a kind and gentle man, who enjoyed life, especially time spent with family and friends. He loved to laugh and if you did not see him you would hear him. When he spoke of others you would often hear him say he was a "hellava nice guy" because he always saw the good in everybody.
Time spent at the cottage with family was a big part of our life, summer and winter, for many years. He took up cross country skiing and in the summer there was always the best afternoon nap after cutting the grass. There were canoeing trips with episodes, raft building, camping trips and horseback riding. Memories were built for family and friends to remember and cherish.
Ray and his beloved 1968 red Chevy pickup may have been a polarizing issue in the cottage community of Grand Marais. While it ran, it was a common sight hauling brush to the dump or running a neighbour to the forest to pick blueberries. When it was no longer street legal he parked it in the driveway of the cottage. He would start it up each spring and as he sat in the cab, he would reminisce. The truck would smoke and create an awful racket because it had no muffler. Whether the neighbours cringed or cheered they would know, Ray Dary had announced the coming of spring.
Ray was a fan of all sports and loved to follow the Jets and the Bombers. There was nothing finer than a hot dog at the Bomber game with plenty of mustard.
Ray studied classical accordion as a youth but favourite music to play was a Ukrainian polka. He helped put together a band and played at weddings and socials, creating more fun filled memories.
Ray was one of the founding members of the Metropolitan Broomball Association established in 1967; enjoyed playing the game and served on the Executive. He valued the friendships of all members.
Ray was a member of Ukrainian National Home and Ukrainian Voice. He was very proud of his Ukrainian Heritage.
We remember his big heart, his big laugh, his energy and how he made himself the quiet mission to always help and care for those around him. He will always be with us in our hearts.
Cremation has taken place.

My condolences to Marie and family I have known Ray for over 50 years from the time I started playing broomball in 1970 till now doing work at his cottage and having many eventful happenings after our games. I served on the exact with Ray on the broomball league as well as the National Home. He will definitely be missed by all that knew. For me his favorite saying was what's up Tom the Bomb. So sorry for your loss. I met Ray a couple of times. He was a good friend of my father-in-law Shorty Hamulka. He was so helpful to Shorty after his blindness. Shorty always sang his praises over Ray. He was a good man. - Posted by: Candace Hamulka (Friend) on: May 09, 2020

I MET RAY AT THE NATIONAL HOME 1975 AND PLAYED BROOM BALL ACROSS THE STREET. SO MUCH TO SAY OF THIS WONDERFUL GENEROUS MAN. I REMEMBER JUST BECOMING A ELECTRICIAN AND HE GAVE ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO WIRE HIS NEW COTTAGE IN GRAND MARIAS. MY CONDOLENCES TO RAY'S FAMILY.
