C. RODNEY DORNAN
1935 - 2020
Rod passed away peacefully on May 4, 2020, at the Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg. He was born February 7, 1935 in Regina, Saskatchewan, to Stanley and Hazel Dornan (deceased).
Rod leaves to mourn his passing and celebrate his life, his loving wife Margaret, of 66 years; sons, Kenneth (Samantha), Richard (Leila) and Douglas (Leslie); and daughter Beth; along with 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Rod also leaves to cherish his memory, his brother Dwayne (Barb) of Regina; and sister Gloria of Mississauga; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
At the age of 17, Rod joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as a pilot from 1952 to 1958. He joined the Royal Air Force in February 1960, and served as a pilot until his retirement as a Flight Lieutenant in 1975.
After returning to Canada, Rod joined Transport Canada as a Civil Aviation Inspector, where he served 19 years before retiring in 1995. In addition to a passion for gardening, Rod was a fast adapter of many new technologies during his life and especially in retirement. Computers and audio video, being his favourite.
Rod survived larynx cancer in 1987. To give back, he volunteered with CancerCare Manitoba, earning him a silver award for his dedicated service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to CancerCare Manitoba in his memory.
The family would like to thank the team at Deer Lodge Hospital for all their care over the past three and one half years. The family will host a Celebration of Life for Rod, after the pandemic restrictions are lifted.
