STANLEY THOMAS ECKFORD

Stan passed away on May 12, 2020, at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba following a brief illness.
Stan was born in Ottawa, Ontario on October 3, 1943. Stan grew up in Ottawa with his brother Ken and their parents, Albert and Mary and moved to Winnipeg. Stan enjoyed a full working life, including a career at Scotiabank and later owning his own business, Mobile Vinyl Repair. Stan had a big personality and loved life. He and his wife Sue travelled extensively. One of Stan's favourite places was downtown Las Vegas. He played a mean hand of blackjack and liked to watch the live bands on Freemont Street. Stan and Sue enjoyed many years wintering in Panama City Beach, Florida, where they made many life long friends.
Stan was an avid golfer and book lover. He had a keen interest in everything going on around him. Stan served on the Board of Directors of Visions of Independence and dedicated many hours of service to them. Stan was very compassionate and contributed regularly to organizations that touched his heart, such as the Winnipeg Humane Society. He was a 'dog person' and he and Sue enjoyed many years with their two Black Labradors, Megan and Annie. He loved the company of his many friends and his close family. He will be missed.
Left to remember Stan is his loving wife of 22 years, Susan Eckford; his stepdaughter Kathleen Pengelly (Rick) and his stepson David Kron (Pamela) and many friends. Special thanks to all those who have supported Sue with loving phone calls, offers of assistance and of course all the memories shared of Stan.
In keeping with Stan's wishes and to quote his words, the family will host a 'noisy get together' when we are able to.
In lieu of flowers, it was Stan's wish that he be remembered with donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

We will all miss you Stan.
Families are forever.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Stan and I met in 1965 on the same job. It was a shock having just learned of his passing just today. For sure he liked Florida and we did go there together in my yellow Mustang but that was in 1968. Stan was a hot dog and Pepsi guy, but we loved cars, and movies, each had our motorcycles, and I was always stunned at the size of his record and music collection. I haven’t spoken to him in several years since his brother Ken passed away, but he did tell me that he bought a hot Mustang. Stan, I hope the music is playing where you are. Although I did meet Sue I did not know your family, but sincere condolences to them. - Posted by: Roy Fjarlie (Friend ) on: Sep 20, 2020

  • I worked with Stan at Scotiabank in the late 70’s and saw him a few times in years since moving to Ontario. I always remember Stan’s big heart, compassion and wicked sense of humor. He was a true gentleman and a genuinely good person. My condolences on your loss. - Posted by: Pam Harrison (Friend) on: Jul 11, 2020

  • Our deepest condolences Sue and family. How shocked I was to receive a call from Ottawa today to inform me of Stan's passing. Stan and I grew up together as we were neighbors and spent most of our free time watching hockey night in Canada and going to A&W in Stan's new Corvair, he loved cars as I did so we competed against each other dragging on Dwyer Hill Rd. in Nepean/Ottawa for many years. Stan was first Usher at my wedding and we tried to stay in touch but that was increasingly more difficult as the distance between us increased, however, I will remember all the great times we shared and our last visit in Panama City, Fl. a few short years ago. I am heart broken with this news today as I was hoping to see Stan and Sue next winter in Panama City. My total heartfelt sorrows are with you Sue and all his family. - Posted by: Clark Atchison (Long time friend) on: May 31, 2020

  • I was sorry to hear of Stan's passing. I worked with Stan back in 1978-79 at Scotia Bank. I always found Stan to be a warm and friendly person who was willing to listen and offer advice when asked. I haven't been in contact with Stan for several years but I have never forgotten him. My condolences to his family on the loss of their husband and father. - Posted by: Bill Sklover (Former co - worker Scotia Bank Portage and Toronto) on: May 20, 2020
