SUSAN LORI HALPRIN
(KLEIN)
Susan was born January 10, 1953, in Winnipeg and grew up in River Heights. She took pride and joy recalling her charmed childhood on Ash Street, living side by side and playing with friends and cousins. She enjoyed happy summers at Winnipeg Beach, the day camp songs and the Beatles became the soundtrack of her youth.
From a young age her unique personality was apparent; she was vivacious, intelligent, inquisitive and exceptionally empathetic - a social butterfly emerged. Susan became an early childhood educator; she had a gift with children, treating each child with respect. Her creativity, joie de vivre and passion for her students left a lasting impression. Known affectionately as "Miss Susan", she remained lifelong friends with students and parents from her years teaching.
Susan and Bryan's love affair began in 1981. They enjoyed making a home together, entertaining friends, winter travel to Florida and summers spent at Lake of the Woods. In 1983, Susan and Bryan were married at their home, surrounded by their immediate family. The highlights of their lives together were the births of their three daughters, Baillie Rae, Sarry Nell and Julie Cara.
Susan was the original "Supermom", devoted to her daughters and their friends, and the ultimate homemaker. She found the joy and the goodness in everyone and everything. She was resolutely positive and inclusive. Her home in Winnipeg and her cottage in Lake of the Woods were open to all and a place at her table was extended to everyone, especially those in need. Susan spent her life fully engaged in her community and was an avid volunteer. She loved travelling with Bryan, her daughters and friends. She immersed herself in arts and culture, was an excellent cook and consummate hostess, and was always the life of the party. Susan enjoyed every moment as a grandmother and built unbreakable bonds with her three grandchildren as their fun, loving and most special Baubie.
Susan's lasting impression, in the words of her friends, is as follows: "one of a kind, a force of nature, extraordinary, larger than life, a legend, the brightest light in our orbit, stylish, the most positive and inclusive, had a contagious smile, to know her was to love her and to feel loved..."
She is survived and lovingly missed by her husband Bryan Klein, her three daughters, Baillie Rae Klein Chisick (Daniel Chisick), Sarry Nell Klein (Scott Gilmour), Julie Cara Klein (Alan Lagunov), her mother Elyse Halprin, her brother David Halprin (Linda Redman), her brothers-in-law, Bill and Gary Klein, her loving cousin Kerrie Halprin (Richard Leipsic), and her three grandchildren, the lights of her life, Lyla Bea, Asher Theo and Miles Reuben. Her father Rivan Kenneth Halprin and her sister Tracey Halprin predeceased her.
A private funeral was held on May 11, 2020. The full service and eulogies can be seen on the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue website (www.szwinnipeg.ca).
The family extends its deepest thanks to her devoted caregivers, nurses at Palliative Care Manitoba and the team at CancerCare Manitoba, led by Dr. Alon Altman, for their care and kindness.
Susan's dazzling smile and bright light will never be extinguished, she is forever and always in our hearts.
If desired, donations can be made to the Susan Halprin and Bryan Klein Family Fund at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba. The family intends to distribute funds to CancerCare Manitoba for ovarian cancer research and to arts and culture programming in the City of Winnipeg.

So sad to hear of Susan's passing. Yes, my daughter loved Miss Susan at the Y.M.H.A Susan always greeted everyone with a smile and made you seem special. In later years I would see here at the Rady and she again greeted with such exuberance. Sincere condolences to Susan’s family on the passing of a beloved daughter, wife, mother. I have known Susan since our days together at Winnipeg Beach Day Camp where I was her councillor. Creative, artistic, vivacious, filled with energy. The world has become a little quieter with her passing. Sad to see Susan has passed. She was so bubbly, enthusiastic, vivacious & full of life. Incredible homemaker, cook, baker and entertainer. Classy lady who always had an open home and room for another at her dining table. Totally devoted to her family, especially her awesome grandchildren. It was so much fun to visit their home and see the girls and their friends come in and out; a delightful hub of activity and fun. She made it such a pleasure to enter the home. I always enjoyed visiting Susan & Bryan when in Winnipeg and driving down to South Florida to see them there. She kept me up to date with many of the Winnipeg events. Loved her frequent impromptu Facetime visits; I will sure miss those as well as the physical visits. The Klein girls will have a very tough act to follow but I am confident they will accomplish this, after all, they had such an awesome mentor. Condolences to the entire Klein family and also to Elyse. Arnold & Janet Zeal - Posted by: Arnolld Zeal (Friend & Relative) on: May 16, 2020
