PATRICK GRAHAM PHILLIPS

With deepest sorrow I announce the death of my beloved son, Patrick Graham Phillips, of Yellowknife, NWT, April 28, 2020, at University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton.
Patrick leaves to mourn his wife Edna Bains, daughter Madison (Jonathan) Stride, Yellowknife; daughter Jessica Phillips (Tyson Leaf), Calgary; sister Alanna Phillips and mother Myrna Phillips, Winnipeg; sister-in-law Susan (Chris) Hammington, niece Heather Findlayson, Edmonton; stepmother Patricia Phillips Hartney, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He had a special relationship with his uncle Terry Moffatt, who was like a brother, and cousin Pamela Wiebe who was ''nanny" to his girls in Yellowknife. Patrick was predeceased by father John Phillips (2015), brother Bryon (1976), mother-in-law Joan Ostrum (2015).
Born August 8, 1963 in Brandon, Pat moved to Thompson at nine. Graduated from Margaret Barbour Collegiate in The Pas. He loved the north and after working in Churchill, he and friends moved to Yellowknife. He began a 30 year career with Clark Builders in 1990 where he became Superintendent on projects all over the Northwest Territories (ie. dozens of commercial buildings, schools, health centres and infrastructure at BHP Diamond Mine). He was an expert in constructing cement foundations in extreme winter temperatures and he loved his work.
Pat enjoyed playing hockey growing up and as an adult curling with his co-workers. He revelled in fishing in Great Slave Lake and with his pals at Ingolf, ON. He loved the rock music of his youth and later Blues and Folk, and delighted in trips south for concerts. He and Edna travelled to Mexico, Panama, Hawaii, New Zealand, and looked forward to more travel. Pat brought his carpentry skills to renovate their home inside and out including his dream kitchen just finished in time for his last Christmas dinner. He was an amazing cook - Prime Rib and Yorkshire pudding, and Eggs Benedict were treats beyond compare. Pat came to Winnipeg almost every fall to take his mother to the final Blue Bomber home game of the season. He was also a superb mechanic who restored his 1970 1/2 Camaro to its original glory.
Pat and Edna's loving relationship began in 1991, followed by Madison's birth in 1993 and Jessica's in 1995. His family was his pride and joy and he supported his girls from childhood to their graduation from university and S.A.T.C. in Alberta. Pat was a kind, loyal, gentle man who was respected by his co-workers and his community. His friends Kelly and Pat Earis, Clyde and Sherri Allen, Barb Bond and the Saskatchewan gang are deeply mourning. Special thanks to them and to my many friends and neighbours for your kindness. Also, thank you to the incredible staff at the Heart Institute who did all they could to save Pat's life. His lungs were donated so someone is now alive and breathing because of his generosity. We have shed many tears for the one we loved; we now have to live in the hollow he has left behind.
Cremation has taken place. Due to Covid-19 memorial plans are delayed.
If so desired, donations in Patrick's memory can be made to the Stephen Lewis Foundation (Grandmother's Fund), a charity he long supported, or the Heart Institute at University of Alberta Hospital.
