ERIKA LEIBLICH
1928 - 2020

It is with sadness and fond memories, that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandma (Oma), Erika Leiblich, on May 15, 2020. Both her daughter and grandson were able to be with her during her final hours.
Left to treasure her memory are her children, Sylvia and John, grandson Kurt (Alisha), great-grandchildren, Logan and Finn, and other family and friends. Erika was predeceased by her parents, Anton and Elsa Fischer, and brother and sister-in-law Bruno and Lee Fischer.
A devout Catholic, Erika was born in Lodz, Poland on June 23, 1928. During a tumultuous post war period in Europe, Erika left for Canada. She arrived in Winnipeg through Quebec in 1951 and later assisted with getting her parents and brother into the country. She remained in Winnipeg and was married prior to settling in Chicago, IL where she raised her son and daughter. In 1968 Erika returned to Winnipeg with her children where she worked until 1988 before moving to Grand Forks, ND.
Erika enjoyed travelling, singing in the German Society of Winnipeg choir, attending church and spending time with her family. She loved the trips she took with her daughter and grandson and the frequent visits from them during her years in Grand Forks. Even over her final days, she was especially fond of her great-grandchildren. Erika's strength, courage and conviction has been evident throughout her life and includes her undying love for, and loyalty to, her family.
Winnipeg funeral arrangements will be made at a later date.
A special thank you to the nurses and staff at Valley Elder Care and Nancy Hall. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Valley Elder Care in Grand Forks, ND, or a charity of your choosing.
