1958 - 2020

We mourn the unexpected passing of Dale Bedford on May 15, 2020, beloved son of Jean and Gerald Bedford of Winnipeg.
He is survived by his mother Jean (nee Douglas), daughters, Erin and Taylor (Kevin), brothers, Doug (Lori) and James (Dawn-Lynne), and many extended family.
Dale grew up with a passion for curling and making his own way in life. He found success in sales and established a successful business in flooring, gaining the respect of customers and colleagues. He built a home in East St. Paul with his then wife Bev (nee Swanson) and raised two beautiful daughters who were his pride and joy.
He loved running, the outdoors and helping others. He struggled later in life with health challenges, but never lost his love for his children. He found peace in recent years, returning to Winnipeg from Victoria and re-establishing a loving relationship with his family. He was happiest enjoying peaceful walks in Kildonan Park and long drives with his mom.
A private ceremony of remembrance is planned.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you find a way to support those in your life and community who struggle with chronic mental health conditions, or through the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA).

Condolences & Memories (12 entries)

  • Dear Doug and Lori, I was sorry to learn about the passing of your brother Dale. Although having never met him personally, it is obvious he was a very caring person who found happiness in the simple things in life; a wonderful way to live. Judging by the tributes, he was much loved and touched the lives of many. He may be out of sight but I am sure never far from mind. Sincerely, Joanne Brock (with Don and Christopher in spirit) - Posted by: Joanne Brock (Friend) on: Feb 18, 2021

  • I am so so sad to read this. Dale and I grew up as neighbours on Slater Avenue and went to grade school together at Lord Kitchener, John Pritchard, and River East. We curled together and played many a game of hide and seek and football with the kids in the neighbourhood. We lost track of each other after high school but reacquainted a couple of times when he did flooring jobs at my homes. Dale was always a good and kind individual with a quiet demeanour and could always be relied on as a friend. He was an excellent student, always competing for one of the top spots on the honour roll each year. It surprised me at the time that he didn’t go on to university, but he always seemed happy with his flooring company and did an excellent job there. My heart felt condolences go out to all the Bedford family. Dale will be missed, and will always be fondly remembered As a kind and quiet man by the many who knew him. Rest In peace Dale, may we meet again someday. - Posted by: Rob Davidson (Neighbour and friend) on: Jun 03, 2020

  • So sorry to hear about Dale. I was a neighbour of the Bedfords on Slater Avenue when I was very young (Dale was 2 years younger). We moved to BC when I was 10, but before we left, the Bedford boys (with help from their mom and dad, I think) gave us a 'going away' party, complete with skits and songs. They were, and they remain, a special family. Our heartfelt condolences. - Posted by: Craig Van Alstyne (friend) on: Jun 02, 2020

  • I am so sorry to hear this sad news. As our good neighbours on Slater Avenue, we have fond memories of Dale and the Bedford family. Our thoughts are with you all at this time. - Posted by: Tyla Van Alstyne Doyle (former neighbour) on: Jun 02, 2020

  • I would like to express my condolences to the Bedford family at this difficult time. The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Dale is honesty. Whether it was getting advice , choosing material or just the installation of flooring I knew I could count on Dale. I enjoyed spending time with him on the job and as well having a nice conversation while sharing a coffee. - Posted by: Carey Hunnie (Friend) on: Jun 01, 2020

  • My deepest sympathy to his family. I went to River East with Dale. I remember a smart handsome guy who was always kind to me. - Posted by: Pamela Diaczun (High School) on: May 31, 2020

  • Dale did an excellent job doing the entire flooring in our brand new house in 1986. I remember; in particular, him doing all the intricate cutting and stitching of the carpeting around the many individual spindles on the staircase. That took skill and patience. I have enjoyed curling over many years with members of the Bedford family, Doug, Jamie and Gerry. My thoughts are with you at this time of your loss. A son and brother now belongs to the ages with his heart remaining in the minds of many. Bruce - Posted by: Bruce Rutherford (Friend) on: May 31, 2020
