MARTIN PENNER
August 9, 1937 - May 26, 2020
Martin was born in Altona, Manitoba. He later moved to Winnipeg, where he met and married Theresa Simmel and together the couple raised their four children.
Eventually the couple moved to South Transcona, where Martin built their dream home. Martin was an active member of the community; President of the South Transcona Community Centre, baseball Manager in the 1980s and General Manager and part owner of the Transcona Railers.
Martin was raised on the farm but ended up in Winnipeg for employment at Eaton's as a shipper/receiver and then Woolco. He eventually left Woolco and followed his passion and started his own business, Martin Penner Carpentry, where he completed custom interiors. Martin enjoyed wood working and passed the trait onto his two sons.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Theresa (Simmel) in 2005, his parents, Martin and Helen Penner, sister Evelyn Penner, brother Jacob Penner, and brother-in-law Raymond Simmel.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Deborah, Robert, Edward (Cindy), Karen (Peter J), five grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his sisters: Anne (Henry), Martha (John), Marjorie (Alfred), Dorothy (Jack), his brothers: George (Mary), Abram (Lois), Alvin (Debbie), and his sisters-in-law: Helen, Brenda (Ron) and Priscilla.
We would like to thank Maples Care Home for the care they have provided to Martin over the last year. We would also like to thank the many doctors, nurses and health care aides at Health Sciences Centre who competently offered tender care.
Donations in Martin's memory can be made to Parkinson Canada or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
A private service will be held with family, burial to occur at Transcona Cemetery.
