LANCE MILLAR

It is with sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of Lance Millar on May 31, 2020, at the Grace Hospital.
Lance was born in Regina in December, 1937. He attended Campion College in Regina and the University of Saskatchewan and spent his entire career working as a Pharmaceutical Sales Rep starting with the Upjohn Company of Canada in Regina, transferred to London, Ontario, and later to Winnipeg. Next he joined Merck Frosst and eventually retired with Rhone-Poulenc (now Sanofi Aventis) in Winnipeg.
His greatest desire was to own a cottage on Lake of the Woods and his dream came true when we, as a family, built our cottage, decks, and docks. It was his favourite place to be and has become our family gathering place.
Retirement life was spent wintering in Palm Springs and spending the summer at the cottage.
He was predeceased by his parents, Fleet and Viola Millar. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lynn, his son Scott (wife Sarah, Mack and Jane), and his daughter Jill Pistawka (husband Doug, Peyton and Cooper).
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family burial will take place. A Celebration of Life will be held in the fall.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • Memories… I met Lance in 1960 during time spent at the U. of S. in Saskatoon; he and I belonged to the Newman Club, a place to socialize at St. Thomas More College. We met again in Regina where Lance was a “detail man”,,, a young salesman for Upjohn Pharma and I was a newly graduated civil engineer. Having found a job in Regina I was new in town and looking for a place to stay. When one of Lance’s clients, a Dr. Hardy took an extended hiatus, Lance, together with another friend and I house-sat the doctor’s home, a plush residence on McCallum Avenue in Regina. As a gratuity for his skill in securing rent-free accommodation Lance took the keys to the conservatory; or as he referred to it, the “Slap-and-Tickle Room”. From the McCallum home Lance arranged a move to another palatial rent-free accommodation; the Academy Park Road home of another of Lance’s clients, Dr. Gerry Evenden. It was at Gerry’s lakefront cottage at Buena Vista near Regina Beach that Lance acquired a taste for lakeside cottage living and vowed that one day he’d build one for himself. That’s exactly how it worked out. I reminisce those carefree days; and I miss you Lance. I’m sure many others do too. - Posted by: John O'Brien (Friend) on: Dec 29, 2020

  • Lance and I worked together for few years in the 80's. Very nice time as Lance was a super coach for me and a man always thinking about his clients. I valued his professionalism, his sense of service to his doctors but most important his love for his family. He always had his priorities at the right place. We will miss you Lance but will remember those memories forever. Lynn and family, you have all our thoughts in those dfficult times. • Lance was one of my best and most successful representative that I had the opportunity and pleasure to work with. Every time I was visiting him somewhere in the prairies I had the pleasure to meet with a very kind and caring man. It did not take time to realize that he was very much appreciated by the doctors he was visiting. It is very sad realizing that he is gone. • Lance and I went to Campion College in 1950s in Regina. After school we lost touch as I moved to Sarnia, and Lance to London. We met up again in the 1970s in the Bell telephone office in Regina, paying a phone bill of our parents. We have kept in touch ever since and even shared a Crown Royal or two over the years. So many good memories. Our thoughts are with you Lynn, Scott and Jill. - Posted by: Jack & Dianne Waddell (Life long Friend) on: Jun 09, 2020

  • I had the pleasure to work with Lance while at Rhone Poulenc Rorer. I was a new sales trainer and was sent to Winnipeg to learn from Lance. He was such a knowledgeable man within the pharmaceutical and especially hospital sales market. He taught classes to the hospital sales group and I was fortunate to be able to listen in. His wealth of knowledge was amazing. At the end of each training day, I had the pleasure of having dinner with him. If I recall, I think he was very specific about 1 time, only one time that dinner had to occur- it was early- but I was happy to adjust my schedule. Some times, I would even be able to eat again and have a 2nd dinner with some of the other team members that ate later on. That being said, I will always remember his great laugh and generous heart. - Posted by: george Petrovas (friend- worked with Lance at RPR) on: Jun 07, 2020

  • Lance was a wonderful colleague, mentor and friend for 30 years. He loved to use the expression "I hawk pills for a living". He was one of the best at this profession and I learned a lot about selling antibiotics from him. He was a superb teacher and we all loved to hear him lecture at meetings. His Christmas letters were a must read filled with his odd descriptions & humour of their years events. We will dearly miss him. - Posted by: Don & Diane Hardie (Friend) on: Jun 06, 2020
