On June 4, 2020, with heavy hearts, we held her hands and said goodbye to, a beloved Mother, Lola, Tita, sister, and good friend to many, Maria Dela Cruz.
She is predeceased by her parents, Rogaciano and Irenea; her brothers, Nicasio, Roberto, Jaine, Jimmy, Cres (Angelita), and Ernesto (Carmen); and her nephew Roberto Dela Cruz.
Surviving to mourn her passing are her children, son Ross (Margaret), daughter Rossanna (Jerome); grandchildren, Rebecca, Jacob and Isaac; siblings, Paulita (Rueben), Jesus (Alicia), Virginia, Ben (Teresa), Herminihildo (Teresa), Eutrocina (Danilo), Felicidad, and Domingo; nieces and nephews, May (Jim), Marvin, Darwin, Angelita (Eric), Carla (Kelly), Alexzandra (Mike); partner Victor, and many more family and friends across Canada, US, and the Philippines.
She was born in Makati, Philippines on November 26, 1947 and graduated from Arellano University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. At the age of 23, on August 11, 1970, she immigrated to Canada, to start a new life.
She worked for several garment manufactures, such as Wescott Fashions, Freed & Freed International, and JMJ Fashions.
Maria was known for taking long walks daily and being a regular at the Legions where she would dance the night away. She was a world traveller and cherished her grandchildren. Many have described her as vibrant, giving, fun, polite, lovely, young at heart, a great friend, and having a beautiful smile. We are all left with many stories and pictures that echoed that.
Thank you to all her family and friends for showering Maria with lots of love and care. She will be greatly missed and will live on forever in our hearts.
The family would like to thank the staff at Health Sciences Centre SICU and GA5 Step Down for their care and compassion.
Due to current circumstances of Covid-19; a private service and interment will be held at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Memorial donations in Maria's name can be made to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation of Canada or the Health Sciences Centre Foundation:
