GARRY DONALDSON
April 27, 1935 - June 3, 2020
Garry was predeceased in 2017 by his wife of 61 years, Beverly, and in 2001 by his daughter Barbara. He will be sadly missed by his daughter Debbie (Mike); sons, Jerry (Brenda), Jim (Brenda), Brian (Tracy) and Dale (Leslie), as well as 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Garry worked at Canadian National Railway for 41 years, retiring in 1990. Mom and Dad enjoyed their retirement, travelling to their home in Mesa, Arizona for 17 years, as well as several trips to Vegas and Laughlin. Garry also enjoyed the cabin at Hillside Beach for years, spending afternoons picking chokecherries to make his favourite wine. He loved gardening, especially his flowers and tomato plants and always looked forward to spending time with family and friends. Garry had a wonderful sense of humour, constantly telling jokes, as he loved to make people laugh.
Cremation has already taken place. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

I was the office clerk/secretary for Garry and others for many years while working at Symington Yard. Always a pleasure to work with and talk to. Over the years, would reconnect at times at Club Regent and remissness. RIP Garry. - Posted by: Shelley Bilan (co-worker at Symington Yard for many years) on: Aug 13, 2020

Uncle Garry loved to laugh and make others laugh. He had a wonderful wit and perfect comedic timing. His straight face and serious delivery of his observations and stories were absolutely hilarious. My favorite memories were at the Hilliside cabin (Rex the dog) and Christmas Eves at Aunt Bev's and Uncle Garry's house. I had the pleasure of spending time with him one last time when I drove Uncle Garry and my Aunts out to Southbeach. Rest Well Uncle Garry. Keep Laughing. You will be missed. - Posted by: Jim Craig (Nephew) on: Jul 04, 2020

I met the Donaldson family in the early 70's after I met Deb at Beliveau Junior High. The Donaldsons resided at the infamous 31 Briarwood Road in Windsor Park, the home base of many parties to come (when Mr. and Mrs. Donaldson were out)! We'd be itching for them to leave, so that our friends could pile in. We'd be sure to disburse before they came back home, but it was always way too much of a great time! Of course, Mr. and Mrs. Donaldson knew what was going on, so they decided to surprise us one night and arrive home early and, boy-oh-boy, did we ever scatter like mice! I believe we still did manage to sneak in a party or two, though, after that?! Once the 'party house' sold, Mr. and Mrs. Donaldson lived down South for most winters and then bunked with Jerry and family upon their return to Winnipeg. As we grew up and started families of our own, we'd reminisce about the many good times at 31 Briarwood Road. Mr. and Mrs. Donaldson appreciated listening to our stories whenever there was some type of family gathering at Jerry's. Mr. and Mrs. Donaldson eventually moved in with Deb and Mike for a couple of years, as Mrs. Donaldson's health was declining. We loved celebrating the Donaldson birthdays and anniversaries at Club Regent and, most recently, at South Beach. Once Bev made her way to Heaven above to be with their daughter 'Baba', Garry was lost. After spending time between Deb and Jerry's, Garry moved to his final residence at Amber Meadows; and, ohhhhh, how we loved listening to the stories about his friends there! It was his version of the 'Old and the Restless'; and, of course, Garry's humour always made the stories that much more entertaining. RIP, Mr. Donaldson. We know that you were very much welcomed by your beloved Bev and precious 'Baba'! You are very much loved and missed. - Posted by: Cindy Drysdale (Friend of the family) on: Jun 17, 2020
