JAMES WALLACE (WALLY) WALKER
December 23, 1941 - June 4, 2020

In the early hours of June 4, 2020, Wallace was called to his heavenly home.
Predeceased by his parents, Jean and John Walker, Wallace is survived by his loving spouse of 49 years, Isobel. He was very proud of his son Craig (Mélanie Lefebvre) of Ottawa, and his daughter Heather (Robin) McAninch of Pittsburgh, PA, who will miss him dearly. Wallace will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Allison, Connor, and Amanda McAninch, and Justin and Emma Walker, all of whom provided him with such special and loving times together. He will also be greatly missed by his sister Airdrie Young, and his niece and nephews, Jeanne, Duncan, and Graeme, all of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Wallace attended St. James Collegiate and earned a B.A., majoring in Economics, from United College (now the University of Winnipeg). He spent most of his career as a District Service Manager with General Motors of Canada, living and travelling around Manitoba, Ontario, and Nova Scotia, then making Ottawa home. During these years, several lasting friendships were made, along with many happy memories. While living in Ottawa, Wallace was a longtime member of Dominion-Chalmers United Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir and serving on the Board of Trustees. For a number of years, he also attended Knox Presbyterian Church, making many friends there as well.
Our sincere appreciation is extended to the staff of the Emergency Department and Ward 2B of the Ottawa Civic Hospital, who treated Wallace with care and respect during his final hours. Our thanks also goes to the Heart Institute's Dr. D. Beanlands, Dr. F. Rubens, and Dr. L. Higginson, who ensured that "his motor kept running" over the course of the past 30 years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date when family and friends may all be together once again.
If so desired, donations in Wallace's memory may be made to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • We were all so crushed with the news of the passing of my Uncle Wallace. We are simply heartbroken, yet in our despair we are also grateful. Wallace was an amazing person. An amazing son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He left no person he met disaffected. His intellect, passion, quick wit and playful spirit will live on in all who knew him. To me; he was a giant. A pillar and the epitome of a role model. He was the original Cookie Monster. Our hearts are broken. We are steadied by the thought that he has been greeted in the loving arms of his beloved parents. Uncle Wallace, I will miss you every day, and strive to live up to your standard; always. May your memory be a blessing. May your memory be eternal. - Posted by: Graeme Young (Nephew) on: Jun 22, 2020
