DONALD (DON) RALPH DEVRIES
1927 - 2020

On June 10, 2020, at the age of 93, our Dad and Papa passed away peacefully at Calvary Place Personal Care Home.
Don was predeceased by his wife Shirley. Remaining to cherish his memory are his son Bruce Devries (Marg); daughter Charlynn Booth (Jim); grandchildren, Jennifer Miller (Scott), Laurie Taylor (Ryan), Julie Devries (Luke), Kyle Devries, Cody Booth (Sara), Emily Faure (Mark); great-grandchildren, Ty and Emily Miller, Jonathan and Liam Booth, and Lucy Faure.
Dad was born and raised in the Toronto area and joined the RCMP in 1949. He served in Manitoba, NWT and Ontario, retiring as a Staff Sargeant. After the RCMP he worked for the Canadian Government as a consultant setting up security at a diamond mine in East Africa. He then worked as a manager at BMO (Mastercard Security), and for Manitoba Lotteries. In 1987, he built and operated The Riding Mountain Inn. Papa enjoyed golf, camping and later the cottage at Clear Lake. He loved to attend all family celebrations.
Special thanks to Alvira Loewen and the staff at Calvary Place.
There will be no service, and a private family interment will take place at a later date at the RCMP Cemetery, Regina, SK.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Calvary Place Personal Care Home, 1325 Erin St., Winnipeg, MB R3E 3R6.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • September 1949 just two weeks after my 18th birthday I was in "Depot Division" Regina. Don was five years older but we became good friends. I was very fit, Don was fitter. I was an excellent swimmer, Don was better. Don taught me how to dress in style. He was not a father figure, just an older brother. My life was greatly enriched in having him in my life for too short a time! Years have gone by but the memory of Don and his friendship has not faded. Goodbye Don! • My sincere condolences to Bruce, Marg and family and Charlynne, Jim and family on the loss of their father and grandfather. I think Don must have enjoyed an eventful life in all the various places that he lived and the different types of work that he did. Hope he wrote his memoir or left lots of stories as an oral history for all of you to enjoy passing along! Love, Auntie Shirl - Posted by: Shirley Shipley (Sister-in-law) on: Jun 23, 2020
