promise of the possibility of being with you again.
When Last We Parted
"A grief ago, when last we parted
The day became churlish, a melody flat;
Vibrant colour faded to sepia,
as the struggling sun
Withdrew, inscrutable behind
the lowering cloud.
A grief ago, when last we parted
The golden sunrise turned to brassy
Fears lengthened, and threat portended
Amidst the doleful paraphernalia
of the grey day.
But on the morrow, dear one
The sun will rise in applause
on the eastern rim
Colours will all be golden, ruby and purple,
Pulsing with life, and lively with purpose.
On that morrow, my only sweet,
The roistering wind will yell
at the dancing trees,
And waves at dawn
will catch the beckoning sun;
And we will come again to the high hillside.
On that golden morrow
When I see you again."
Till then my darling, love Marj
