January 26, 1958 - July 3, 2020

It is with deep sadness we announce Gale Pearson passed peacefully and with family at her side on July 3, 2020, at Health Sciences Centre.
Gale is survived by the three most precious people in her life, sons, Kristopher, Jesse and Nick. Gale is also survived by her husband Larry; parents, Bob and Diane Sandberg; brother Danny; sisters, Judy, Karen, and Carol; and many extended family members and very close friends. In recent years she was predeceased by her sister-in-law and friend, Diane Gantzel, Uncle Bill Clake, Aunt Alphild Hooey and Cousin Linda Jonson.
Family and friends were always a driving force in Gale's life. Gale was the organizer and loved family gatherings and holidays. Gale loved spending time with her boys, watching them play hockey and many other sports, spending time with them at the lake or just relaxing with them at home in front of the television. Whatever it was, it really didn't matter; she loved spending time with her "babies".
Childhood summers were spent at the family cottage at Winnipeg Beach, where Larry and Gale met at 16 years old. Recent years were spent at her favourite place on earth, her cabin at Clear Lake where she spent many summers with her lake friends and best lake buddy "Cozy", our Australian Shepherd. The Clear Lake cabin was her pride and joy; many winters were spent planning her renovation and upgrade projects for the following summer. Gale loved working on her carpentry projects both at the family home and cottage.
Gale's professional career spanned more than three decades at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. Beginning as a caring and dedicated bedside nurse, and proudly spending her last 12 years in Hospital Administration as Utilization Facilitator.
The family would like to thank family and friends for their love and support during this very difficult time. The family would also like to acknowledge the support of CancerCare Manitoba and Health Sciences Centre ICU unit with special thanks to ICU nurse Debra who provided all the care and compassion any patient or family member could ever hope for during the last few days of Gale's precious life.
In accordance with Gale's wishes, a celebration of her life will be held with family and close friends at a date to be set later.
In lieu of flowers and if you wish, Gale would appreciate if you donated to a deserving charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (31 entries)

  • Sorry to hear this. Thoughts & prayers to family and friends. Gale was a very nice lady, and it was always a pleasure having a quick chat, or a passing smile & hello in the hallways at the Grace. She treated everyone with respect, and that was appreciated. A kind soul. RIP. - Posted by: Anthony Zak (Co-worker) on: Jul 23, 2020

  • So saddened to hear of Gale’s passing Although I haven't see Gale in many years friends always kept me updated on her goings on. Like myself she was one of only a few people from our high school that went into the personally rewarding career of caring for others. Gale's kind heart would have shone brightly and compassionately there. I remember fondly the fun filled halcyon Summer days of our youth spent at Grand Beach and Sunset Beach. It was a privilege to have Gale pass through my life. I wish her family my heartfelt condolences. David Nash White Rock, BC - Posted by: David Nash (70’s friend) on: Jul 20, 2020

  • I only met Gale once when she came to BC to visit with Kris. She greeted me with a warm hug and huge smile. She has done an amazing job with raising her sons as Kris is an amazing man who is giving, thoughtful and compassionate. My heart goes out to all that love her. Rest in peace Gale. - Posted by: Kathi (Friend of Kris) on: Jul 15, 2020

  • We are so sorry to hear of Gale's passing. Our families spent many hours together at the hockey rinks when Adam and Nick played minor hockey. Gale and I often ran into each other in the hallways of the Grace and would catch up on the news of our families. I will greatly miss those talks. I wish her family strength and many happy memories. - Posted by: Dale, Gail and Adam Iwan (Hockey Friends) on: Jul 15, 2020

  • Glorious Gale will be remembered fondly. - Posted by: Leslie Mauro (Friend of the family) on: Jul 13, 2020

  • I was so sad to hear of Gale’s passing. It’s the first time in my life that I have ever thought of her without smiling, giggling, or outright laughing. She had a magic about her, an infectious laugh, and a way of making any situation into all kinds of fun. We grew up together in the same church, and the same neighborhood, and we were partners in crime many times! That was so long ago, but the memories are still vivid, and all good. Rest In Peace, Gale. Sending my heartfelt sympathy to Larry, the boys, Gale’s family, and friends. Janis Ferguson - Posted by: Janis ferguson (Friend) on: Jul 12, 2020

  • I am beyond grateful for the many years I worked with Gale at the Grace. She was not only a colleague but I considered her a friend. She was a no nonsense firecracker and she brought her best everyday. I loved hearing about her boys and all their adventures. Please know that I am thinking of you guys and Larry. When I moved into my current position at The Grace, Gale was there to assist me and helped me find my voice and confidence in my new role. I will always be grateful for that. I will miss your face, but will always look back and remember you fondly for your wonderful spunk and no BS attitude. Rest easy, friend 🖤 - Posted by: Lauren Lavineway (friend) on: Jul 12, 2020

  • Gale was one of the best nurses I ever worked with. I had the pleasure of working with her in Women's Health and Medicine at the Grace in the early 90's, and again years later in her discharge role. She loved her job and it showed in her work ethic and her advocacy for patients. But most of all, she loved her family. She always beamed when she spoke of Larry, Kris, Jesse and Nick. May her beautiful smile and memories of the good times bring you peace in your time of grief. My deepest condolences to the family. - Posted by: Colleen Bytheway (Co-worker) on: Jul 12, 2020

  • Dearest Gale. This was very sad news. Gale and I were good friends as teenagers having grown up in the same neighbourhood and attending school together. She was the most fun loving and kind person you could hope for. She helped me enormously to get through family troubles as a teenager and was a regular guest in the family home for our Saturday afternoon coffee dates with a gaggle of yapping teenage girls. She was loved by both of my late parents and my entire family. We went our own ways shortly after high school but I did manage to catch up with her a few times when I was back in Wpg before I moved away again. I know she was probably a wonderful nurse due to her very caring nature. She deserved a good life and it sounds like she had one. I have not and will never forget your great laugh, exuberance and kindness. Rest in peace my dear friend. With much much love from your old pal Kelly. - Posted by: Kelly Moorhead (Childhood friend) on: Jul 11, 2020

  • Draw a curtain over the sun and turn off the moon, Kristopher, Jesse & Nick, I am so profoundly sorry for your loss and the impact on your lives. I knew Gale from the Grace Hospital where she was a trusted colleague and friend. I loved working with Gale. She had a no BS type of attitude and she took no guff from no one - but she was quick to share a laugh - and truly made “work life” fun! She loved talking about her boys - she shared stories of their crazy antics with pride - balancing the worry that every mother has, but relishing in the fact that each was making their way in the world, and on their own terms. She would have wanted nothing less. I was hoping to track her down up at Clear Lake this summer so we could catch up and share some laughs again. It’s hard to accept that she is no longer with us. Rest In Peace Gale - You are missed and loved by many. - Posted by: Allison Deighton (Friend & Colleague) on: Jul 11, 2020

  • My deepest condolences to the Pearson family. I'll miss you a lot Gale! Thank you for working closely with me for more than 4 years as I transformed from a new grad from Toronto to a professional at Grace Hospital. You were always there for me whenever I needed your help. Thank you! And thank you for being a motherly figure to me. I will miss our conversations about life and my own struggles of being an adult. You were an awesome person to have in my life! - Posted by: Aric Kam (Colleague) on: Jul 11, 2020

  • I am so shocked and saddened to learn of Gale's passing . . . my heartfelt sympathy to your entire family. I first met Gale through her sister-in-law, Diane Gantzel, who was my neighbor and best friend. Then we ended up attending nursing school together and, while it has been years since I last saw her, I will never forget all the good times spent and friendships shared - these times will remain in my fond memories of her forever. Gale was warm and sincere, with the most beautiful smile. A life gone much too soon and now, our loss is heaven's gain . . . RIP sweet lady - you will be forever loved and missed . . . - Posted by: Lois Middleton (Former Classmate & Friend) on: Jul 10, 2020

  • My sincere sympathy to the entire family and friends of Gale’s. Gale was a bright light full of smiles and laughter. I met Gale in Grade 1 and won’t forget walking to school each day. Just after graduation Gale moved in with me prior to her trip to Europe. I was amazed at her travelling through Europe all on her own. She managed to stay with my sister while she visited Holland. I will never forget you Gale. Rest In Peace and one day we will meet again. • It's terrible to hear about your loss and please accept our deepest condolences to you and your family. Gale was a true inspiration and friend, I can still hear her laughter in my office as I write. She was one of those friends who I considered to be genuine in nature; she said it as it was, and I appreciated her for that. We went for coffee frequently and I will cherish those times we spent. Gale developed many friendships including mine while working tirelessly at the Grace. Her smile and laughter will stay in our heart forever. You will be missed everyday, we will remember that smile and your laughter my friend. Rest in peace, miss you forever.
