Condolences & Memories (14 entries)

  • I only knew Bernice for just under a year, as one of her neighbours, but she always brought so much joy whenever I ran into her. She was witty and sweet, with a great sense of humour and such a kind demeanour. She is and will continue to be missed by the kids in the daycare down the street, everyone in our building, and everyone else who had the pleasure to cross paths with her. - Posted by: Isaac Cassels (Neighbours) on: Feb 11, 2021

  • Very sorry to hear of Bernice’s passing. I met Bernice in the late eighties when working for Excise. I enjoyed Bernice’s wit and humour throughout our working years together. Bernice was dedicated, hardworking and reliable. Rest In Peace. - Posted by: Claude Lavallee (Co Worker) on: Sep 15, 2020

  • Bernice and I worked together for about 6 years. I would say "hey buddy"... She would say "I am not your buddy, now get to work"!!! She was tough, but once you got to know her she was alright. Casey De Cesco, co-worker - Posted by: Casey De Cesco (Co-worker) on: Aug 30, 2020

  • Bernice was my neighbour for the past 3 years. She treated my boyfriend and I like adopted grandkids and was always checking in on us and offering rice krispy squares and cookies. We will miss her clever quips and feisty personality. - Posted by: Catherine (Neighbour) on: Aug 15, 2020

  • My memories go back along time ago..when Auntie Beans would visit the farm (John and Jean Morton's 3 miles west of Elphinstone) Her pretty face and cute clothes always made me envious of this smart styling lady. She smelled so nice and her hair was just so! She would steal my wee cousin Cinnamon and the giggling would start! Lots of fun was had when she visited. I never saw her once I moved west (1973) and that was sad. Two of my sisters had the pleasure of spending time with her. Fond memories will remain with me forever. - Posted by: chrissie morton (niece) on: Jul 21, 2020

  • I first met Burnell’s at the GST office in 1990. I enjoyed her company and we did have some good laughs together. A really nice person. I’m really sorry to hear that she’s passed. She was quite a gal. - Posted by: Don Dupuis (Co-worker) on: Jul 16, 2020

  • My condolences on Bernice's passing. I worked with Bernice over her career with the Canada Revenue Agency...first in Federal Sales Tax and Excise followed by GST and lastly when the Department was integrated as the CRA including Income Tax, GST and Excise. Bernice is remembered as an employee who worked hard, had an excellent work ethic and encouraged others to have pride in their work as well. I had the opportunity to have many personal conversations with Bernice and she always had an interest in my children and grandchildren. I will always remember Bernice as a person with a very kind heart and someone who was genuinely interested in her work and the welfare of others. She will be missed. Doug McLean, former Director of the Winnipeg Tax Services Office. - Posted by: Doug McLean (Co-worker) on: Jul 16, 2020

  • Carol, very sorry for your loss. Worked with Bernice for years and she always had a special spot in her heart for children. She would always ask about my kids and they would want to know how Mrs. Blackbird was doing. When the kids would stop by the office Bernice always has a kind word and usually a full bag of snacks for the kids to eat later. - Posted by: Mark Grindle (Co Worker) on: Jul 14, 2020

  • To the family, condolences on the passing of Bernice. My sister Audrey was school chums/roommates with Bernice in Winnipeg where they worked. Carol and I went to school together and were good friends. Although many years have passed those wonderful Elphinstone school days have good memories. I lived at the Coast moving with my parents in the 60's but I have recently moved back and living in Erickson. May the memories of Bernice bring comfort to the family over the coming days/months. - Posted by: Shelley (Kotyk) Watson (School friends) on: Jul 11, 2020
