FERNAND LAVALLEE
1929 - 2020

On July 4, 2020, at the Sault Area Hospital, our father slipped quietly into eternal rest. He was 90 years old.
He joins his beloved wife of 65 years, Agathe Trudeau, who left us in 2018.
Fernand was born on July 27, 1929, in La Salle, Manitoba, to Blanche Comeau and Elphège Lavallée. He worked 39 years on the repair crew at the Canada Lafarge Cement plant in Fort Whyte, while running a 240-acre beef farm in La Salle. Like most farmers, his work ethic was fierce. He loved his job; he loved agriculture.
During his final months, he expressed pride in the fact that his children had grown up to be industrious. We certainly had the right model.
Fernand leaves behind five children, Ronald, Joanne, Gilbert, Alain, and Philippe; 16 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
After his wife's passing, he moved to Sault Ste. Marie, to be near his daughter.
Because of travel restrictions currently in place, the Funeral Mass will be held at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • He was a quiet, gentle man, with always a kind smile on his face and a loveable chuckle. Loved his walks, his cars, and his woodworking. Today would have been his 91st birthday. He will be missed. Love you - Posted by: Holly (Granddaughter ) on: Jul 27, 2020

  • My condolences to you all! My father John Kolthof & Fern worked together at Canada Cement for several decades. After their retirements, they would walk together (along with another neighbour Bill Mitchell) at Bird’s Hill Park for years after, everyday, didn’t matter the season, even winter! I would often go along with them as well. Your Dad was an awesome person whom I’m sure you will all miss! His quiet demeanour was an inspiration, and his humour! Take care and may God bless you all! - Posted by: Richard Kolthof (Son of Fern’s friend & co-worker) on: Jul 11, 2020
