1943 – 2020

It is with heavy hearts, we announce that after a brief battle with cancer, Martha Lawrence, aged 76, passed away in her sleep at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg on July 2, 2020.
Martha was born August 11, 1943 in Rossburn, Manitoba. She completed high school and college in Brandon, Manitoba and continued to a successful career in accounting.
Martha is survived by her husband Vern of 54 years; son Troy (Cheryl) and her three grandchildren, Madisson, Katelynne and Johnathan. Also surviving are numerous siblings, nieces and nephews.
Martha is predeceased by her youngest son Perry, whom she cared for many years following his accident that left him in long-term care at Deer Lodge Centre, until his passing. Martha valued the importance of family, as reflected in her devotion and care of her youngest son.
Martha touched the lives of so many, but her greatest source of pride was her grandchildren. She always looked forward to school concerts, dance recitals, gymnastics competitions, track meets, stage performances, hockey and soccer games, graduations and much more. She shared her passion for the arts with her granddaughter Kate, enjoying Rainbow Stage, the ballet and theatre productions.
Martha was known for her love of fashion and her great sense of style. She enjoyed yoga, fitness, travel and spending time with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Deer Lodge Centre Foundation in Martha's name where her son Perry was cared for, for so many years. Martha's family would like to express thanks to Saint Boniface Hospital staff for their kindness in Martha's final days.
A small private service will be held at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • Our large blended family lost touch over the decades but I came back in touch with Aunty Martha when I worked at 2000 Portage Avenue, and she would stop in and say hi after her visits with Perry. It was great to have a visit and hear more about my Dad's life when they were growing up, especially after he passed. I always appreciated the phonecalls from her to check in throughout the years. I remember her and Vern taking me to Brandon when I was young and thought she was such a stylish pretty lady. She was still the same as I grew up and knew her as an adult. She loved talking about her family and so proud of her grandkids! Rest in peace Aunty Martha and condolences to the family. - Posted by: Valerie Antonation (Niece) on: Jul 16, 2020

  • I am so sorry to hear this news about Martha. She was always such a great lady to us boys growing up. Her dedication to Perry's well being (as well as Vern's) after his accident was incredible to say the least. Thinking about Vern and Troy during this difficult time.
