ROBERT MURRAY FORREST

It is with deep sadness that we announce that Robert "Bob" Murray Forrest of Kincardine, Ontario, passed away at Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket, Ontario, on Monday, July 6, 2020, in his 69th year, with his sister by his side.
Bob fought a difficult battle with lung cancer for several weeks and we will never forget his stamina and strong will to live through all the challenges he faced.
He is survived by his daughters, Jessica Young, Sarah MacKenzie, and Rachel (Jon) MacKenzie; sisters, Darlene (Brad) Cann, Dale (Dennis) Willis, and Maureen (Howard) Kortz; nephews, Connor and Jacob Cann, Cameron and Brendan Willis; nieces, Sandra (Patrick) Martin, Shauna (Shaun) Kortz, and Kristin (Murray) Stewart; and, great-nieces, Mary Martin and Grace Stewart.
He was predeceased by his wife of 28 years, Barbara, and his parents, Vern and Mary Forrest.
Bob was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and spent his childhood summers at the family cottage on Lake of the Woods. He enjoyed a long career as a highly respected technician in the electric power generation field, first with Manitoba Hydro and then with Bruce Power in Kincardine where he worked for 27 years. He also operated his Forrest Electric & Gas Service for many years. He loved to work and after enjoying some retirement Bob worked as an HVAC Technician for Edward Fuels during the last six years. He was passionate about doing work that was safe and precise, and he was always there to help his family when they were in need of his expertise.
Bob was an active member of the Kincardine Legion since 2003, serving in many positions, including President and Youth Education Chair. In 2015, he proudly received a Life Membership, with many of his family present. He tirelessly contributed his knowledge and skills to numerous renovations and projects at the Legion, and was especially proud of the project to replace the crosses on the veterans' graves at the cemetery. He loved history, especially war history, and travelled to various commemorative sites in Canada, the United States and Europe. Bob was very knowledgeable, and the odds were wholly stacked against his family members when they played Trivial Pursuit.
Many thanks to the staff and volunteers throughout the South Bruce Grey Health Centre system, and the home health care team who cared for Bob, and who were kind to our family. We are also very grateful to Mike, Natalie and the staff at McKechnie Pharmacy for the extra time they gave Bob, and the care and kindness they showed to him and our family. Bob was fortunate to have many physicians and nurses who were focused on giving him the best chances to fight this disease. Thank you to all of them.
At Bob's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date when it is considered safe to gather.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Kincardine Legion Macdonald Branch 183 Veterans White Cross Fund or to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation/CT Scanner would be appreciated.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I just learned this evening that Bob had passed from a friend in Winnipeg. Bob and I grew up as close friends on Kimberly avenue in Winnpeg. We walked to and from school together for years. We enjoyed more than one good fight as kids feeling our oats. My wife Ruth and I spent an evening with Bob in 1975 in an apt. on Henderson Hwy. Bob was with Manitoba Hydro at the time. That evening was the last time we saw each other. We moved from Winnipeg shortly after. Bob was a great friend. At about age twelve I spent a wonderful few days at his grand parents cottage on Lake of the Woods. . My condolences to Bob's sisters and family.
