ROSE KATHLEEN SHERBO

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of our mother Rose Kathleen Sherbo (Cantafio) on Tuesday, July 14, 2020. Mom was born March 13, 1927, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Rose was the daughter of Michaeli and Linda Cantafio, sister of Annie, Katie, Eva and brother Joe. They had a special relationship and it continued throughout their lives. Their bond of family was insurmountable.
Mom worked many years as a seamstress for the T. Eaton Co. We would reap the benefits every Friday as mom bought us treats. She was a very accomplished seamstress. We remember she took great pride in making our clothing when we were children.
Mom was a devoted wife. Mom dedicated her time to her husband, Peter, and his love of gardening. They made countless visits to farms picking vegetables and then spending weeks on end preserving and preparing them for storage.
Mom looked forward to their yearly trips to California visiting their children. Mom loved to bake and two weeks before departing started baking all kinds of cookies to bring to their grandchildren.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband Peter Sherbo, her parents, Michaeli and Linda Cantafio, her siblings, Annie Cosentino, Joe Cantafio, Eva Giardino and Katie Lovallo.
Mom is survived by daughter Mary and husband Frank, son Archie and wife Beverlee, son Michael and wife Shelley. She is survived by grandchildren, Louie, Peter, Carla, Frank Jr., Kelsie and Rose. She had 11 great-grandchildren: Michael, Carla, Isabella, Luigi, Emily, Franchesca, Mary, Sophia, Angelina, Beck and Wren.
We would like to thank all the staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge, 811 School Road, Winnipeg; with a special thank you to Christine, Yolanda and Jasmine for your superior care.
You will be missed very much Mom and Nana.
There will be a private service due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
A memorial service celebrating Mom's life will be held once restrictions on public gatherings and borders have been lifted.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your desired charity.

  • My sincere condolences to all of her family. Rose was always such a classy lady. She was so kind and I always enjoyed talking with her. We had remained in touch through Facebook and were able to share happening in our lives. She loved sharing photos of her family. She was so proud of all of her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a very special woman. I loved her. She was an intelligent gentle soul and I will cherish my memories of her. - Posted by: Brenda Scarcella (Friend ) on: Jul 17, 2020

  • I remember so many happy times with Aunty Rose, shooing us out of the way, and of course feeding us, and more recently on Hector Bay keeping a watch over the backyard while Uncle Peter worked in his garden. As Marti said, Aunty Rose's passing leaves our Sherbo family without cover. All our family role models have now left us. Aunty Rose was the last of a long line of exemplary Italian Canadians who worked so hard and guided our family from very humble beginnings to provide their children with opportunities, and gave us the love to pass to our next generations. To Mary, Archie, Michael and your families, know that we too will miss her presence. Charles and Dawn - Posted by: Charles and Dawn (Nephew) on: Jul 15, 2020

  • With Auntie Rose's passing it is the end of an era for all of us Sherbo cousins - she was the last of the powerful and remarkable women - who stood watch over their children - guiding, encouraging and loving them - fiercely. Mary, Archie and Michael - our deepest condolences on your Mom's passing. May she rest in peace- embraced in the arms of all those who have passed before her.
