LINDA SHNITKA
October 8, 1947 - July 5, 2020

She peacefully passed away at Riverview Health Centre following a strong and courageous fight against cancer.
She got to experience her dream career, a nurse for 35 years. She loved the work, she loved helping others.
After retirement she wintered in Texas with her husband. Throughout her years she made tireless contributions making quilts with her trademark pocket with a toy inside it. Those went to the Children's Hospital of Winnipeg, Salvation Army, CancerCare Manitoba and Christmas Cheer Board in Winnipeg. Quilts and blankets were made that went to the mission, school, birthing centre and anywhere comfort was needed in Weslaco, Texas. She specifically made mitts and hats for an annual Christmas tree 'pick a gift' in a school in Winnipeg, where children could walk up and select something of their choosing. She was always giving to charity with her inherited talents from her mother, of sewing and knitting. Both had the mindset that giving was its own reward, whether it be giving to family, friends or strangers. No one could begin to count the number of blankets, hats, mitts and slippers. She taught many people how to knit. Any request for a homemade item was given. Some may have just seen a pile of cloth, thread and yarn, but Linda saw material about to be turned into treasured donated gifts. Giving was always on her mind and she did it with love.
She enjoyed a cabin in Gimli with her husband for 35 years. There they entertained family and friends, gardened, crafted, read, cycled and walked. Her and Aaron enjoyed the luxury and ability to travel and explore this planet, loving every minute of it. Photos and memorabilia of their travels lined the walls of their home.
She had no regrets in life. She lived a meaningful life. She had a lust for life. Anyone who met her felt her love, joy and positive energy. In her last year and a half of life she was constantly telling long faces 'there's no crying in baseball'.
Despite the consequences, Linda chose to do things her way. Family was the most important thing to her, she will miss them dearly.
She insisted that everyone know that she gave her best to everyone. Never did a birthday go by without a card of best wishes and or a celebratory song. She was an extremely modest person regarding all she accomplished.
Linda thanks everyone who shared her life with her and made her last days comfortable and joyful.
She is survived by her husband Aaron of 49 years, Aunt Jean and siblings, Rick, Betty and John; along with many additional family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Linda's name to a charity of their choice, though Linda would especially appreciate one to the Children's Hospital of Winnipeg and CancerCare Manitoba.
