PEARL GARDINER
July 12, 1931 - July 12, 2020
Pearl and George lived most of their married years in Brooklands and St. James and spent time in the summers in Grand Marais. In the early 1960s Pearl and George purchased two pinball arcades, Funland and Playland in Grand Marais, which they operated for several years providing opportunity for their children to have the ideal summer job. In the 1980s, they moved to Huntsville, Ontario for several years after George accepted a transfer with his employer, Kimberly Clark. During this time, Pearl would accompany George on business trips and they much enjoyed this travel and the friends they met along the way. Upon George's retirement, they returned to Manitoba and built their retirement home in Hillside Beach. During the next 10 years, they enjoyed their time there and were active at the local seniors' centre, playing cards and bingo. Winters were spent in Texas, where they also played cards and bingo and made more good friends. Pearl and George enjoyed travelling and they visited many places across the United States, including Hawaii, as well as trips to England and Scotland. Upon relocating back to Winnipeg from Hillside Beach, they eventually settled at the home of their grandson, Jason and his wife, Jessie, where they have been affectionately cared for during the last 15 years.
Pearl was a loving person who cherished her family and friends and she was a perfect role model for her children and grandchildren. She was kind to everyone. Pearl was a wonderful homemaker and well known for her prowess as a thrifty shopper. She always knew where to shop for the best bargain. She was a devoted wife whom George fondly referred to as his "Lamb" and they were inseparable. Pearl will be sadly missed.
At Pearl's request, there will be no memorial service.
For those wishing to do so, donations can be made to a charity of your choice in Pearl's name.

We have so many wonderful memories of Pearl. The summer we visited at Grand Marais, the Christmas we spent with them in Winnipeg and their visits to Vancouver are forever in our hearts. Pearl was a wonderful cook, Bryan especially liked her bacon dipped in pancake flour. Even potential disasters were great - mashed potatoes accidentally made with chocolate milk. We will miss Pearl but are glad of the memories we have, she was truly a remarkable woman. - Posted by: Bryan and Jacqui Gardiner (George's brother (and his wife)) on: Jul 19, 2020
