ROY KJALDGAARD

Peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2020, at the Neepawa Hospital, with family at his side, Dad passed away at the age of 100.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Julie; sons, Kelly (Jayne), Robin (Sheila), and Jay; and grandchildren, Courtney (Marc), Lindsey (Chris), Tyler (Lydia), and Erin. He was predeceased by parents, James and Mary Kjaldgaard; his brother Jim; and sister Margaret.
Dad was born on November 15, 1919 in Pilot Mound, MB. He married Julie Buschau July 6, 1956 and resided at their family farm just outside Plumas, until his passing. It was here they raised their family. Dad farmed all his life. If you knew him, you saw that his fields were immaculate, but his vehicles not so much. Dad worked hard for six days of the week with his crops and cattle, but always believed that work stopped on Sunday and it was time for family. After farming he pursued his main loves in life: gardening and fishing.
Dad was a man of faith and gave much of his time to his local community. He was a coordinator for the Red Cross, served on church boards and worked with the Manitoba chapter of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. He was a Manitoba Pool Elevator Delegate for many years and volunteered as a hockey coach while his sons were growing up. He took great pride in all his involvements and accomplishments.
Dad's greatest pleasure in life was when his grandchildren came along. They were the apple of his eye. He loved to chase them around when they were small, in order to catch them and have a tickle and giggle fest. He took great pleasure in telling jokes and stories.
A special thank you to the wonderful staff at the Neepawa Hospital for the excellent care Dad received.
A private family service will be held. A celebration of his life will be held at a future date when it is safe to do so.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I have fond memories of Roy and Julie from my years as minister of Gladstone United Church. Roy was indeed a man of deep faith who live his faith in his daily life. We had many good discussions about the issues facing the church in those days and Roy was always well-informed and insightful. I am grateful that God blessed him with a long life and a loving family. I pray for Julie and all who mourn his passing. - Rev. Colin Peterson - Posted by: Colin Peterson (Former Minister) on: Aug 03, 2020
