ADRIAN LEONARD CANCILLA

It is with great sadness and the deepest of sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Adrian Cancilla, who died peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 84 years.
Adrian was born on February 4, 1936 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. After his Dad's passing in 1942, the family moved to Winnipeg.
Adrian met Maylene at a social in 1955 and he knew she was special. They were married on October 3, 1959 and together they raised two children and shared a marriage of 60 years. Maylene was always his greatest supporter and inspiration.
Adrian is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Maylene; daughter Karen; son Darren (Franca); granddaughter Courtney (Scott); grandson Mason and great-grandson Oliver.
He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Ronald (Maryann), Arnold and Allan.
His business career spanned some forty years with the opening of the Automatic Transmission Clinic on March 5, 1961 and in 1967 he started a second company, Wes-t-Rans Ltd., which became a major truck drivetrain remanufacturer and truck parts supplier in the industry.
Adrian and Maylene loved to travel and take cruises, especially with their children and later with their grandchildren. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time in his yard and golfing with friends and family. Adrian was a true family man. His greatest joy was with his grandchildren and great-grandson. He loved them and enjoyed all the time he got to spend with them. He was so proud of them and treasured every moment they spent together.
Throughout his 84 years, he made many friends, touched many lives and mentored so many others with his wisdom, knowledge, compassion and gentle understanding.
His generosity and philanthropy extended well beyond and through his charitable foundation.
In keeping with Adrian's wishes, a private funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, July 29 at 11:00 a.m. in the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church. Friends and family are welcome to view the funeral online by going to http://www.olphwinnipeg.ca and clicking on the livestream or OLPH Winnipeg at www.youtube.com.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Stephen Coyle and the nurses and staff of 3 East at the Riverview Health Centre for the care and compassion given to dad and our family while he was in their care.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Adrian may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Dear Maylene, Karen and Darren, I am truly saddened to hear about the loss of Adrian. I can honestly say that having your family next door while I was growing up was a blessing that I will always treasure. I have many fond memories of the times Adrian would have a welcome smile and pat on my back as I watched him tending to his perfectly manicured gardens on his hands and knees. There was always a lending hand if I had any troubles putting together old cars I had pulled apart. After Dad passed away there was no hesitation on making sure my Mom was looked after. You were both the most incredible and loving neighbours anyone could possibly wish for. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers go to you all during this most difficult time.
