TERRY (GOODY) JON GUDMUNDSON

Terry passed away peacefully at Victoria General Hospital, on Saturday, July 18, 2020, at the age of 72 years.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Renate; his sons, Randy (Chantal) and Kris (Vicki); his three grandchildren, Aidan, Kayla, and Jori; nephew Stuart and his family; and his faithful dog Porter. He was predeceased by his parents, Jon and Violet Gudmundson.
Terry was born on June 21, 1948. He was a proud resident of St. Vital throughout his entire life. Directly out of school, he began his 45-year career in the insurance industry where he was well respected for his experience and knowledge.
Terry enjoyed playing sports, especially hockey and baseball. He was involved with the St. Vital Vics Hockey Organization for many years and shared his passion for the sport by coaching various levels.
Some of Terry's happiest times were his golf weekends at the cottage with his sons and friends, his winter vacations down south, and trips taken with his sons to the U.S.A. to watch hockey.

Condolences & Memories (13 entries)

  • I had the privilege of working with Terry for about 15 years in the insurance industry. He was not only knowledgeable but an honest, hard working manager who always found a nice thing to say to or about people. He always found the good in any situation and I know our industry is better for Terry having worked in it. Rest in peace old friend. • Some of my best memories growing up are from my days with Terry as my hockey coach. He was a great guy through and through, and treated all us hockey players like we were his own kids. We lost one of the good ones in Terry. RIP Goody - Posted by: Cory Young (Hockey player/friend) on: Jul 26, 2020

  • Renate and family...we send our sincerest condolences to you on the passing of your Husband, Father and Grandfather Terry. May your fond memories help you thru these trying times. Sincerely, Marlene & Brian Miller - Posted by: Marlene & Brian Miller (Neighbours (former)) on: Jul 26, 2020

  • I have known Terry since the 1950s when we lived 3 houses apart on Harrowby Ave. We hung out together off-and-on over the years both at Glenwood School and Glenlawn Collegiate playing soccer (Terry could run the entire game), swimming at the "Hole" at St. Boniface G.C., as well as attending the teen dances at Glenwood C.C. We also spent many enjoyable (but very competitive) hours over in the field at Glenwood competing to see who could hit their golf ball closest to home plate at each of the field's respective 3 baseball diamonds. Terry was a great guy, extremely personable and well-liked. They say the good die young and that is certainly true in Terry's case. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. My sincerest condolences to Terry's wife and family. PS: I'll bet that right now Terry's up there swapping hockey stories with "Kippy." R.I.P. my friend. - Posted by: Doug Wilson (childhood friend) on: Jul 26, 2020

  • Terry was my coach for the St. Vital Victorias in the ‘90s. We were out to win but he knew we would be at our best if we were having fun and building a great team on the ice and in the room. He was committed to that more than anything and we’re better off now for it. The guys always loved and respected him. Great to stay connected through Vicki and the odd chance encounter at Tim Horton’s! Best wishes and our condolences to friends and family of one of the good ones! - Posted by: Cam Johnson (Former player ) on: Jul 25, 2020

  • I am so saddened to hear of Terry’s passing. I had the opportunity to work with Terry for 15 years and loved when we would be able to have lunches and catch up. He was always so helpful and such a compassionate man. I am going to miss him. My thoughts are with you all. Lisa - Posted by: Lisa Clayton (Colleague ) on: Jul 25, 2020

  • I had the opportunity to work with Terry for several years. On the many trips to Winnipeg, he welcomed me to his home to meet his family and share in his love of St. Vital. Terry made it possible for me to enjoy my one and only NHL game. He was one of the most genuine and sincere people I have had the opportunity to be friends with and to work with. He will be sincerely missed. Sincere Condolences to Renate, Randy and Kris and the families. • Terry was one of the friendly school friends. It breaks my heart to know we lost a good soul. We tend to lose touch with the school buddies we grew up with, we learned with, and we laughed with. We travel down different pathways. Terry Rest In Peace. - Posted by: Gloria Ivory (School friend) on: Jul 25, 2020
