EDWIN (ED) LOEWEN
1933 - 2020
He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 64 years, Lydia; four children, Candace (Jean-Stephen Piche) of Ottawa, Russell (Kathryn) of Howden, Roger of Brandon and Patrick of Winnipeg; six grandchildren, Andrew Loewen (Morgan), Elizabeth von Loewen (Florian Denker), Anne (Nicholas Romio), Francis Piche (Stefanie LaForce), Sarah Loewen (Alex Reid) and Claire Loewen; and four great-grandchildren. He also leaves his sisters, Minna Loewen, Wilma Unger, Anna Penner and Valida (Victor) Friesen; sisters-in-law, Caroline Loewen, Kathy Loewen and Carol Nelson; and Lydia's three sisters and two brothers; as well as many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Ed was born on November 4, 1933, in the Blumenort area to Isaac F. Loewen and Elisabeth (Unger) Loewen. He married Lydia Reimer and they farmed the Loewen family farm until moving to their own farm one mile west of Steinbach. Later, Ed got involved in the farm implement business with Brookside Enterprises and, after moving to Winnipeg in the 1980s, established Corpell's bottled water business. Ed enjoyed business as well as farming, and he enjoyed people. Over the years, he served on boards and committees related to Mennonite heritage and refugees. Ed was always ready to assist those in need.
A few years ago, Ed and Lydia moved to Lindenwood Terrace. The family would like to thank the staff there and at the Riverview Palliative Care Unit for their excellent care of Ed. A special thank you to Dr. Sharkey.
The family will miss him dearly.
A memorial service will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a cause important to Ed such as the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, https://donate.foodgrainsbank.ca or a charity of one's choice.
Condolences may be shared with the family on Birchwood Funeral Chapel's website.

Dear Lydia I am so sorry for your loss. Although I only met Ed a couple times, he was very kind. I know you will miss him. Maureen - Posted by: Maureen Fryza (Past co-worker) on: Aug 03, 2020

I knew Russ and Kathryn through Margret Mitchell. Russ needed some help with water deliveries. I was not working so Ed and I went to the White shell and up to Lundar, and the Beaches to deliver water. He was very friendly and very personable. He clearly loved his family, he gave me lots of advice and we traded stories as we drove miles down the highway. Corpells helped me out when I needed a job and I am grateful. - Posted by: Ken Kowaluk (Family friend) on: Aug 01, 2020
