With broken hearts and deep sadness, we announce the sudden passing of our son Tanner on July 29, 2020.
Born on May 5, 1995 to parents, Mike and Colleen, he was truly a precious gift. He attended Joseph Teres Elementary, J.W. Gunn and TCI Collegiate where he graduated and developed many friendships that continued onto adulthood. He also completed one year at the University of Manitoba before entering the work force. Working for Petraskos Garden Market while in high school and then numerous auto companies including Birchwood Ford, Kia and Westside Honda. He had recently enrolled in the plumbing program at Red River College and would have started this Fall.
Tanner had a passion for football and started playing at the age of nine for the Transcona Nationals. He loved NFL football and enjoyed travelling to various games with his dad which was becoming a tradition. Go Hawks Go! His love for cabin life was huge as this was where he and his friends had many, many great times, always to be remembered. Tanner's kind heart and altruistic nature endeared him to all his many friends. Passionate about music and travelling far and wide to see his favourite artists (Mac Miller, Wax, Flatbush Zombies). The highlight of his early adulthood was going to the Tomorrowland Festival in Brazil as he backpacked through South America with one of his best friends Carl. Cole and Carl were his close friends and brothers from a different mother for sure.
Tanner leaves behind his parents, Mike and Colleen; his brother Scott; sister Lauren; grandmother Lucy; grandparents, Ed and Ruth (Corrigal); aunts and uncles, Cliff and Sylvia, Keith, Kevin, Ken and Tami; cousins, Brock (Micaela), Dalton (Stephanie), Marina, Sierra, Katrina, nephews and nieces, Cali, Karys, Khail, Olivia and Parker, along with numerous extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to an animal rescue shelter in Tanner's name.
"We are so proud of the person you had become and yet so saddened that we didn't get to experience the person you had yet to grow into. You will forever be in our hearts and memories as the amazing son you were. We will live with the love you left behind. Always loving you - Mom and Dad (and Boomer)"

  • I was fortunate to have taught Tanner while he was a student at TCI. He constantly brought laughter into the space through his playful, comedic antics. During his grade 9 year, Tanner was caught sneaking into my office on numerous occasions, just so he could gather and wear my leather gloves during class. He loved how soft they were. That same year, my classroom was equipped with a large bottle of hand sanitizer due to H1N1, and he was often caught goofing around with it and smacking the pump to try and project gobs of sanitizer at his friends. And then there was the time he tried to convince me to let him set me up with one of his family members because he thought I was a “nice lady”. Tanner was a very memorable person, and my deepest condolences go out to his family and friends! Kind regards, Brandis Jonasson - Posted by: Brandis Jonasson (Teacher) on: Aug 08, 2020

  • The very first time I met Tanner was at a family holiday dinner. I remember being very nervous to meet my husbands’ family. I was introduced to cousin Tanner and was immediately calmed by his very kind nature and mellow vibe. He was incredibly warm and welcoming. I so enjoyed sharing conversations with him. Especially discussing football, travel and just sports in general. From every family gathering on I have always enjoyed Tanners’ company. It was clear to see that he had so much love for his family. He will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Micaela (Cousin by marriage ) on: Aug 05, 2020

  • I had the pleasure of growing up as one of Tanner's older cousins. I have such fond memories of him when we were kids and all the sleepovers we had at grandmas house. It was evident from the beginning that Tanner was a very kind and thoughtful person. He valued his family deeply and was always there for Grandma Lucy. I will miss our family dinners, talking football and hearing of your travels. Your gentle spirit will be missed. Love you cousin. - Posted by: Brock (Cousin) on: Aug 05, 2020
