RUTH HODGINS (POPHAM)
Born: Jun 30, 1930
Date of Passing: Aug 02, 2020Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or Memory
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Shannon.
She was predeceased by her husband David in 1999, her sister Eunice in 2009, and brother Marvin in 2011.
Ruth was born at home in East Kildonan to William and Edith Popham (née Vollrath) on June 30, 1930. She graduated from East Kildonan Collegiate in 1947 and went to work for D. Ackland and Son Ltd., followed by Western Savings and Loan Association and Canadian Oil. In the early 1990s she worked for the Manitoba Lung Association. In 1957 she married David Hodgins and moved to Transcona. In recent years she resided at Lions Manor after living in her apartment in St. James.
Her faith in God was unwavering and guided her throughout her life. She was a great believer in the power of prayer. Calvary Temple was her home church for many years and prior to that, she attended the congregation's previous location, Old Wesley Church. Mom enjoyed playing hymns on her 1915 Heintzman upright piano which she did beautifully. As a youth, she travelled with the church's young people's group to various locations in Manitoba as the pianist for services, and also playing at church. She also taught Sunday School for a number of years. She enjoyed the beauty of lakes and forests and loved to go camping in the truck camper and to go bird-watching. She also enjoyed travel to various places in our beautiful country with her family.
Thank you to the staff of Lions Manor for their time of caring for Mom.
As per her request, a graveside service has taken place.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)
Ruth was a neighbor in Transcona in the 1990's. She was a kind and gentle lady. I loved to hear the music she played on the piano float from her living room across my yard. We reunited years later and she had a hard time remembering me. I told her a story about her gifting my children each with a little lawn chair. She could not remember but she smiled and said it was a nice thing to do. Out condolences Shannon.Rest in peace Ruth. Twyla & Dave Harron - Posted by: Twyla Harron (Neighbour) on: Aug 08, 2020
Shannon, I am so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. It's never easy to say good-bye to your mom. I have many memories of her bringing you to Crusaders and other CT events. She was certainly faithful and made sure you were too! You will be in my prayers. With love & sympathy, Joanne - Posted by: Joanne (Wilson) Poirier (Friend of Shannon) on: Aug 08, 2020
Dave and Ruth were our next door neighbours for 7 years. Before that my late sister Joan Campbell were neighbours. Our condolences to Shannon at this time. Vic & Pat Laird, Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta - Posted by: Victor Laird (former neighbour) on: Aug 08, 2020
