ALFRED JAMES EVERETT
"Assiniigaabawi" (Standing Rock)
March 8, 1951 August 12, 2020
On Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at Portage General Hospital, with his family at his side, Alfred took his final breath here and his first in the Spirit World.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Beverly, and his daughters, Vanessa (Rob), Kristen, Nicole and Daphne. He also leaves behind his brothers, Wilfred, Orval (Fran), Randy (Sylvia) and Elmer (Carolyn), his sisters, Clara (Hubert), Diane and Alice, in-laws, nieces, nephews and all those children who loved their Papa Boogie.
Alfred was predeceased by his father and mother John and Lillian, his brothers and sisters, Christine, Russell, Dennis, Joe, Ernest, Eileen and Clarence, his in-laws, Gordon and Lena Myran, Ron Esquash, Sharon Daniels and sadly the nieces and nephews on both sides.
Alfred worked hard his entire life to provide for his wife and daughters, always putting them first, overcoming many challenges and barriers throughout his life.
His greatest gift was to provide support to fill others' needs and lighten their load.
Over his lifetime and since his passing, he has been referred to as gentle, kind, patient, wise, intelligent and humble. We remember a warrior, a leader, a mentor and a good man biigoo.
The family would like to thank all of the medical staff who cared for Dad at Portage General Hospital and the Chiefs and Councils of Berens River First Nation and Long Plain First Nation.
Viewing was held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2020. Wake will take place at Long Plain Spirit Lodge on Saturday, August 15, 2020 beginning at 4:00 p.m. Feast and Ceremony will be held at Long Plain Spirit Lodge on Sunday, August 16, 2020 beginning at 12:00 noon followed by burial at Dauphin Myerion Cemetery.

Naomi and I extend our condolences in the passing of Alfred Everett. Alfred was a good friend and was helpful to me on a number of occasions. He was a wise man who was always ready to offer helpful insights. Living near St Francois Xavier for many years, we were neighbours to each other, and Alfred’s friendship was much appreciated. - Posted by: Dr. Jon Gerrard (Friend) on: Aug 20, 2020
