ELIZABETH BURNELL
(SOULODRE / GLEDHILL)
(nee FIELDS)
Left to mourn Betty's passing are her daughter, Gail (Brian, Marshall and Devon); sons, Gordon (Susan, Robert, and Michael), Stephen, Neil (Brenda, Harland, Kim, Austin); and many beloved family and friends.
Born October 16, 1937 in Halifax, England, and immigrated to Winnipeg.
Betty travelled all around the world, the USA and Canada. No matter where she went, she made friends. She loved to read, sing, watch and play tennis and dance.
Betty had a cute smile and a great sense of humour. It was her infectious enthusiasm to love and laugh and always looked at the bright side of life.
She was an advocate for many people, especially the needy, passing out ponchos and five dollar bills to the homeless on the streets.
Her church and 55 Club in Headingley were a great comfort to her, and she loved the choir. She had added many families to her life with children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She took everyone under her wing, passing on anything she thought they might need. Generous, loving, determined, faithful and kind, Betty was a force to be reckoned with.
Betty's favourite saying "I've slept since then" and "I only remember the good stuff."
A Celebration of Life will be planned for the fall.

My deepest heartfelt condolences to Gail & family, Gordon & family, Steven, Neil & family, & to all other family members & friends of my Aunt Betty. (I always referred to Betty as “Aunt Betty”.) We lost touch over the years, so it was a shock to find out that she had departed for the Pearly Gates. But from what I understand, she was in pain and a great deal of discomfort, so I shall now rest easy knowing that she is now pain free. She is now up there sipping tea with my mother Dorothy, and chit chatting I am sure. My Aunt Betty and I got to know each other quite a bit better than we previously had, when she asked me if I would drive with her in her car to Kelowna. She was going out there to visit with friends and spend a few months in the milder temperatures of the coming winter. My mom & dad lived in Kelowna, and my mom was in a care home with an infection in her artificial knee joint, which meant she would have to spend a few months laid up there to heal. Aunt Betty knew this, and also knew that I couldn’t afford to go out there On my own. She said if I drove her car there, she would pay for all accommodations, I could visit with my mom and dad, & she would fly me home. What an opportunity she handed me. I went of course, and it was on this trip that I was fortunate enough to get to know my Aunt Betty. She was a very kind and thoughtful human being, and I am proud to be able to call her family. I apologize Betty, for losing touch, but I know that you know, that my heart has always and will always be in the right place...just as I know that yours always was. Rest In Peace my Aunt Betty...say hello to me mum for me! I - Posted by: David Gledhill (Nephew) on: Aug 20, 2020

Deepest condolences to the family. A life well spent. We were blessed to enjoy Betty’s friendship over many years. A toast (with Emu), for the fondest memories including time spent at the lake with my Mum and Dad. Cheers and kind thoughts!
